As a long-time admirer of Tequila Works and their unique storytelling in games like Rime and Gylt, it is disheartening to see them join the ranks of studios that have struggled in the industry. Having followed their journey for years, I can’t help but feel a sense of sadness for the team who poured their hearts into creating these captivating worlds.

The creators behind Rime have unfortunately become part of the extensive roster of game development studios that failed to thrive during the industry’s turbulent period. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Tequila Works has declared bankruptcy after a prolonged fight for survival spanning 15 years, along with layoffs and the shelving of an undisclosed project in October (as reported by GameRant).

Established in 2009, this Madrid studio is primarily recognized for the game Rime, but its collection also features a League of Legends story and Gylt, which debuted last year on Steam and gaming consoles (previously an exclusive for Google Stadia since 2019). All games were well-received, though they didn’t achieve massive success, such as on Steam.

As the new guy at Tequila Works, I’m super proud of what we’ve accomplished together. However, the tough market conditions for video games have been stretching on, leaving us with no other option but to seek insolvency. It’s a bummer, but we’re doing everything we can to help and guide our teams through these challenging times. Here’s to hoping for brighter days ahead!
