As an avid gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu when Tencent unveils Light of Motiram. It’s like stepping into a time machine and being transported back to the Horizon universe, only to find out it’s a slightly altered mirror image.

Tencent has introduced its new project, an open-world survival game titled Light of Motiram. While the just-released trailer for this game is visually captivating, it’s hard not to notice the similarities it shares with Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

In a world that blends ancient and futuristic elements, players find themselves navigating an open landscape, creating items, managing survival needs, and fighting off peculiar robotic creatures known as Mechanimals. The style of Light of Motiram appears to be taking cues from the visual aesthetic of Horizon. However, it seems that the game has also drawn inspiration from various other video games.

Throughout both previews of Light of Motiram’s movie trailer and gameplay, a small, floating robot with an artificial “eye” at its core is often seen accompanying the player. These hovering devices resemble Destiny’s Ghosts in appearance and seem to perform tasks similar to theirs, such as scanning surrounding objects. However, unlike Ghosts, these robots don’t appear to have the ability to revive fallen players.

Regarding the gameplay, the teaser for Light of Motiram hints at a deity with benevolent intentions performing actions that aren’t entirely kind. It also provokes thought in the audience by asking, “Could humans ever destroy a god?

The game doesn’t appear to explain how combat functions, as it follows a style similar to Monster Hunter for capturing and fighting the mentioned Mechanimals. Interestingly, these robotic creatures can also be trained to assist players in battle. Furthermore, the game’s official site hints at cooperative play and online features, but it isn’t initially clear how multiplayer aspects influence the game’s crafting and survival elements.

Although Tencent hasn’t specified a definite release date for Light of Motiram as of now, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam. This game is planned for release on mobile platforms, personal computers, and the PlayStation 5.
