On April 24, 2025, I’m excited to tell you that Tempest Rising will be releasing on Steam! This game promises an exhilarating trip down memory lane with a modern twist, tailor-made for enthusiasts of Command & Conquer. Immersed in an alternate modern timeline, it’s stacked with everything that made ’90s and early 2000s real-time strategy games legendary: constructing bases, collecting resources, managing units galore, and heart-pounding tactical battles – all the elements that set those games apart. But that’s not all! Here are some other classic RTS titles you definitely won’t want to miss out on.
Battlefall State of Conflict
This game, Battlefall: State of Conflict by Kyoto Video Game Concern, has recently been released on Steam and has received some excellent feedback. It strongly evokes the classic feel of real-time strategy (RTS) games, right down to its user interface, art style, and overall aesthetic. Whether you’re drawn to it or not will likely depend on your appreciation for retro gaming elements; there doesn’t seem to be a middle ground with this one.
Every group has its unique narrative journey, and there’s a multitude of play styles available, both offline and online battles, cooperative mode, and even a custom level and rule editor are included. To top it off, the game supports Steam Workshop, enabling players to craft and distribute their own units, factions, and maps. There are no constraints on population or construction, providing limitless building and battling freedom. The Battlefall Upgrade system allows for constant force enhancement through battles, offering endless strategic opportunities, as improvements can be made on the move.
Dying Breed
By the way, if you found Battlefall packed with nostalgic feels, Dying Breed takes it a step further. It’s an unabashed homage to the golden era of real-time strategy games. In
Dying Breed offers an exhilarating gaming experience, boasting its own distinctive soundtrack, innovative unit strategies, and a vibrant world teeming with unforgettable characters and escalating challenges, appealing particularly to fans of traditional real-time strategy games.
The independent group at Sarnayer, with MicroProse as its publisher, has not announced a release date for the game called “Dying Breed“. However, you can test out a demo of it on their official website.
D.O.R.F RTS Conflict
In a style reminiscent of the ’90s, D.O.R.F RTS Conflict is a game heavily focused on strategy, where you’ll construct colossal bases, amass resources such as oil, ore, and debris, and manufacture potent armies. It’s not just about destroying adversaries; it involves strategically establishing supply routes, arranging buildings for optimal layout, and transforming raw materials into formidable weaponry.
You’ll find an abundance of diverse units at your disposal, ranging from colossal airships and psychic soldiers to trench battles and mechanized artillery. You can invade enemy bases, engage in hand-to-hand fighting, and even seize their technology for use within our own forces. It’s a game of strategy, excitement, and outwitting your adversary.
Created and launched by independent studio DORFteam, recognized for their contributions within the modding community of Command & Conquer, the real-time strategy game D.O.R.F. RTS Conflict is currently being financed through Patreon. The title will eventually be accessible on Steam, but a release date has yet to be announced.
Fractured Alliance
In a fresh, contemporary style yet maintaining the authentic vibe of traditional Real-Time Strategy games, “Fractured Alliance” by Tense Games offers an immersive experience. This game is set in an alternate timeline where the Cold War continued its course, and it showcases three distinct factions amidst a tense political landscape.
The game is structured to welcome beginners, offering an easy-to-handle faction through auto-controlled features, ensuring a less intense play style. Essentially, it’s intended as a friendly, laid-back Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game rather than a high-stakes multiplayer one. However, you can still join forces with friends for some competitive matches.
Fractured Alliance isn’t out yet, but we can Wishlist it on Steam.
Dust Front RTS
This game is quite intriguing. Dust Front combines aspects of Command & Conquer and Warhammer 40K, providing a traditional Real-Time Strategy (RTS) gameplay experience with a procedurally generated world and a non-linear campaign. The game is set on a devastated planet where we’ll construct armies consisting of tanks, infantry, aircraft, and various vehicles while developing bases and acquiring resources. It merges strategy and action, featuring battles that are often lopsided against enemies who have greater numbers and firepower.
In this game, we’ll journey across a world map, where our decisions shape the economy, news, and more, all while battling mutants, robots, rebels, and other challenges. Along the way, we’ll discover secret plots and as we advance, we’ll gain access to additional units, structures, and technologies to bolster our forces. The gameplay is turn-based, so strategic thinking is key as we predict our opponents’ moves and strategize our attacks.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of “Dust Front RTS,” a strategy game being single-handedly developed by the talented RtsDimon, also known as Dmitry Charankov. Unfortunately, we don’t have a set date for its launch just yet, but I’ve taken the step to add it to my Wishlist on Steam, keeping my fingers crossed that it won’t be long before we can dive into the action!
