Ted Lasso star returns to pro football 20 years after career-ruining injury

I just found out something amazing! That actor, Cristo Fernandez, who played the footballer in Ted Lasso? He’s not just acting – he’s genuinely a really good player! Apparently, he’s good enough to potentially join a real American football team for the next season. I’m so impressed!

Fernandez won fans over with his portrayal of Dani Rojas, the cheerful and quirky player for Richmond FC in the popular Apple TV show.

Although he tried acting, his true passion lies with soccer. He’s returning to the sport after 20 years, following a serious injury he sustained as a teenager.

Dani Rojas actor set to sign for El Paso Locomotive

Reports indicate that Fernandez is training with El Paso Locomotive, a professional soccer team in Texas. He recently participated in a pre-season game and appears likely to sign a contract with the club.

I can’t believe Danny Rojas is training with our local club! Does anyone have any information about this? Tagging @dukekeith and @SeriouslyLoco for updates. #tedlasso #vamoslocos

An El Paso fan spotted actor Ted Lasso’s Dani Rojas practicing with a local soccer club before their last pre-season game. The fan posted online, asking for an explanation: “Is this really happening?!”

Although it’s not official yet, sources at Seriously Loco Soccer Pod suggest that Fernandez is likely to sign with the club soon. He might even be able to play in the first game of the new USL Championship season on March 7th against Colorado Springs Switchbacks.

The USL is the second-highest professional soccer league in the United States, just below Major League Soccer (MLS). If El Paso’s team does well enough to move up to the MLS this season, there’s a chance we could see Dani Rojas compete against Lionel Messi in a real game!

Knee injury ruined Cristo Fernandez’s football career

Although this news is unexpected, Fernandez has almost become a professional athlete before. At age 15, he played for the youth squad of Estudiantes Tecos, a team in his home country of Mexico.

Unfortunately, a serious knee injury prevented him from ever playing in a senior game. After the injury, Fernandez stopped playing and decided to become an actor.

He’s had a lot of success recently, especially with Ted Lasso, which is arguably his biggest role yet. He’s also made quick appearances in popular films like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
