Ted Danson Apologizes to Kelsey Grammer for Argument During ‘Cheers’ Years: ‘I Feel Like I Missed Out on the Last 30 Years’ and ‘It’s My Bad’

As a long-time fan of Cheers who grew up watching the show every week with my family, this heartwarming moment between Ted Danson and Kelsey Grammer brings a sense of nostalgia that I can’t quite describe. It’s like seeing old friends reconcile after a minor spat. Their camaraderie on screen was always palpable, and it’s wonderful to see that their friendship off-screen is just as strong.

More recently, Ted Danson expressed regret over an old disagreement he had with Kelsey Grammer during the making of their show, “Cheers,” years ago.

In the latest October 23rd installment of “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” a podcast I’m a big fan of, hosted by the talented duo of Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson, Kelsey Grammer and I shared some fond memories from our days on the iconic NBC sitcom. We also delved into the intriguing dynamics of our friendship behind the scenes.

Danson shared that he encountered some difficulties interacting with you during the ‘Cheers’ era. He recounted an instance where he felt frustrated with you.

Indeed, you shared that information with me at some point,” Kelsey echoed. The ex-castmates of ‘Cheers’ failed to disclose details regarding their disagreement.

Kelsey Grammer’s performances during the past three decades have been etched in our minds, but it seems I haven’t fully appreciated them. I feel responsible for this oversight and almost want to express my regrets about it to you.” – Danson confessed.

He added, “Indeed, I didn’t act – let me express my regret to both of us for not intervening when I should have. Truly, my apologies are sincere.

Grammer expressed gratitude for Danson’s apology and mentioned that he also wished they could have spent a bit more time with each other.

“My love for you has always been as easy as the day,” Grammer said. “As easy as the sunrise.”

For over a decade, from 1982 to 1993, I had the privilege of embodying Sam Malone on the small screen during the beloved sitcom’s run. Meanwhile, Kelsey Grammer graced our screens as Dr. Frasier Crane, a role he held from 1984 to 1993. The exceptional cast of “Cheers” also featured Harrelson, Rhea Pearlman, Shelley Long, and John Ratzenberger, making each episode a delightful experience for viewers like myself.

Following the conclusion of “Cheers”, Kelsey Grammer returned to his character for the spin-off show “Frasier”, which aired from 1993 to 2004, and has been revived on Paramount+. The second season of the “Frasier” reboot was made available in September.
