Technicolor Bankruptcy: TransPerfect Acquires MPC and The Mill’s France Operations

As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to share that TransPerfect, a leading player in language translation and AI technology, has recently acquired the French studios of The Mill and MPC – two renowned visual effects powerhouses that were previously under Technicolor. Unfortunately, due to financial troubles, Technicolor had to close these studios back in February. However, TransPerfect is pleased to announce that it’s welcoming approximately 120 talented employees from these operations into their team. The specific details of the deal remain undisclosed for now.

Based in Paris, the multinational firm Technicolor underwent multiple restructurings over the past few years. In its latest move, it closed down operations, leaving behind as its principal entities the visual effects powerhouse MPC, commercial visual effects studio The Mill, animation studio Mikros, and gaming division Technicolor Gaming. This global shutdown impacted thousands of employees worldwide.

As stated by TransPerfect, they plan to carry on utilizing the brand names The Mill and MPC for their France-based activities, at least for now. They have reported that there has been no disruption in operations during the French insolvency process, with the aim of maintaining regular business for both employees and customers. In simpler terms, the company intends to keep using The Mill and MPC names for its French operations and will strive to ensure that everything continues as normal for their staff and clients.

At the point when operations were halted, it appeared that MPC, based in London, was engaged in working on “Lilo and Stitch” for Disney and “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” for Paramount. However, whether or not these projects concerned the French team wasn’t yet clear as the news was released.

Through the recent acquisition, visual effects have now become part of TransPerfect’s expanding enterprise. This month, TransPerfect took over Technicolor Games and digital media services provider, Blu Digital Group. Now, Technicolor Games functions as a division within TransPerfect Gaming, while Blu Digital operates as a division under TransPerfect Media, offering postproduction and localization services.

Following the recent collapse of Technicolor headquartered in Paris, new agreements have been reached. For instance, Rodeo FX purchased Mikros Animation from Technicolor. Moreover, a team of former employees from The Mill’s U.S. operations established ARC Creative – a creative studio operating on both coasts, supported by Dream Machine FX, a VFX group holding company.
