Introduced in 2020, Team Fortress 2 Classic serves as a modification for Team Fortress 2, recreating the feel of the original game’s early post-launch phase. This was one of the most well-liked fan-made mods and will soon be made available officially on Steam later this year. You can even add it to your wishlist right now!
Regarding the modifications’ return characteristics, a fresh unique class called Civilian has been introduced, drawing inspiration from Team Fortress Classic. In addition, original weapons such as the nailgun, dynamite pack, and tranquilizer gun are reportedly revamped. The classic two-team gameplay now offers four-team support in Arena, King of the Hill, and other modes. The third and fourth teams will be represented by colors yellow and green respectively.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my excitement for this modification that brings back the charming toon-style character shading reminiscent of the game’s beta era. It reintroduces cut content, strips away many later additions to the game’s content and narrative, and even introduces fresh content, along with unique, exclusive game modes. On the visual front, it boasts enhanced textures, models, and mapping features for an immersive gaming experience.
In this updated version, you’ll find innovative tools such as jump pads, flak cannons, bricks, and even chains around your fists for added combat flexibility. The game also offers extensive modifying options, enabling players to personalize their gaming experience by customizing its appearance, and hosting servers with advanced custom weapon sets and maps.
Since its initial development in 2014 and official release in July 2020, Team Fortress 2 Classic has been under development for more than ten years – an amount of time that likely surpasses your lifetime. Despite taking breaks for large, multi-day updates, a dedicated team continues to work tirelessly on new content, balance adjustments, and bug fixes.
As a moderator, To play Team Fortress 2 Classic on Steam, you need to already have TF2, which is free of charge. This Steam release news follows closely after Valve made the TF2 source code public, possibly paving the way for more advanced mods in the future.
