Tatiana Maslany, Marwan Kenzari to Star in Berlin-Set Romantic Comedy ‘Any Other Night’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Actors Marwan Kenzari, known for roles in “Black Adam” and “Aladdin”, and Tatiana Maslany, who has starred in “The Monkey” and “Orphan Black”, have commenced filming on the romantic comedy “Any Other Night”. This project is being directed by Michiel Ten Horn from a screenplay written by Patrick Whistler.

This international co-production involves Mike MacMillan from Lithium Studios (known for “In Cold Light” and “Mobile Homes”), Sol Bondy of One Two Films (famous for “Holy Spider” and “Armand”), Erik Glijnis and Leontine Petit of Lemming Film (renowned for “Sweet Dreams” and “The Secret Agent”), and Karen Harnisch of Film Forge (whose works include “Infinity Pool” and “Shook”). The distribution rights for international markets are managed by the recently established French sales company, Lucky Number.

On a chilly Berlin night, when a citywide transit strike had left everyone stranded, I found myself sharing a ride with a stranger – Sam (Kenzari), a cabbie barely keeping his head above water. In the backseat was Maggie (Maslany), fresh from a breakup and in the process of packing up her life. What was meant to be a routine fare turned into an unpredictable, late-night adventure as our lives intertwined.

The upcoming English film by Ten Horn, titled ‘Any Other Night,’ is his debut in the English-speaking world. Known for his breakthrough hit “The Deflowering of Eva Van End” that made waves at international festivals, he was also recognized as one of EbMaster‘s “Ten European Directors to Watch.” His latest work, ‘Fabula,’ had its premiere as the opening film for the 2025 Rotterdam Film Festival.

Marwan is best known for his role as the legendary “Jafar” in Guy Ritchie’s live-action musical adaptation of Disney’s “Aladdin.” He has also appeared in “The Old Guard” on Netflix, alongside Charlize Theron and Matthias Schoenaerts, and played the main antagonist in “Black Adam,” produced by Warner Bros./DC. Recently, he featured in Uberto Pasolini’s “The Return,” along with Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, and on “The Night Agent” Season 2, alongside Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan. The sequel to Netflix’s “Old Guard” will be released on the streaming platform on July 2.

In the hit BBC America series “Orphan Black,” Tatiana Maslany, who has been honored with an Emmy Award and nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading role, skillfully portrayed various characters over five seasons without breaking a sweat. Her performance earned her three Emmy nominations and one win for exceptional lead actress in a drama series. In addition to this, she received two Critics Choice Awards and was nominated for a SAG Award, as well as several other recognitions.

She played the lead opposite Matthew Rhys on HBO’s “Perry Mason” and voiced a character in the animated show “The Harper House” for Paramount+. Additionally, she is starring as the main character in Marvel’s “She-Hulk” series on Disney+ alongside Mark Ruffalo.

Recently, Maslany has been seen in “The Monkey” and will soon appear in “Keeder,” both productions helmed by director Osgood Perkins who penned the script for “Longlegs.” She is set to begin filming shortly on “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed,” a project for Apple TV+. This series was created and overseen by David J. Rosen, known for his work on “Citadel,” and is directed and co-produced by David Gordon Green, who has previously worked on “Nutcrackers.

Distinguished European actors like Hannah Hoekstra (“Heaven,” “Cocaine Bear”), Mala Emde (“Köln 75,” “Tomorrow the Whole World”), and Nikolai Kinski (“Masters of the Air”) join the rest of the talented cast, including others.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about this stellar cast! Tatiana’s raw talent and quick wit are simply explosive, while Marwan exudes an intense yet vulnerable on-screen charm that leaves you captivated. Together, they are nothing short of phenomenal on the big screen.

MacMillan expressed enthusiasm, stating, ‘We can’t wait to breathe life into this project.’ He praised Michiel’s distinctive style and perspective in the movie, calling it entertaining. Given the current state of the world, he suggested that viewers might appreciate a dose of affection.

The movie is supported by several entities including the Netherlands Film Fund, Telefilm Canada, Ontario Creates, Red Lab (post-production studio), Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, FFA, DFFF, Netherlands Production Incentive, Creative Europe, AVRO/TROS, CoBO fund, Kalamata Film, and Ivan Samokhvalov serving as the executive producer.

Distribution in Canada is handled by Elevation Pictures. In Benelux and Germany, the movie is known as The Searchers, while in Germany and Austria it’s also distributed under the name Port-au-Prince.
