As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for poignant, thought-provoking films, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation when it comes to “Light Memories”. The film’s unique blend of photography and cinema promises an immersive experience that delves deep into the heart of family legacies and societal issues.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that it’s my turn to bring “Light Memories” to the big screen! Taskovski Films Sales has secured this captivating documentary, and it will debut for the first time in the competitive international segment of the prestigious International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. Can’t wait to share this beautiful film with fellow cinephiles!
In this film, renowned photographer Misha Vallejo Prut makes his directorial debut, weaving together poignant photography, fragmented recollections, and hidden familial truths to delve into the profound impact of absent fathers on a family’s dynamics. As a movie critic, I was deeply moved by this compelling narrative that masterfully captures the complexities and emotional turmoil associated with such absences.
Vallejo Prut employs his grandpa’s old camera to rebuild a cherished family photo collection, helping him connect with the ancestor he never had the chance to know personally.
According to the statement, he delves into the absence of fatherly figures in his life, reclaiming spaces that were previously inaccessible to his family. His perspective reveals hidden truths and acts of violence, yet the malleable nature of memory provides an opportunity for atonement.
Vallejo Prut stated: “The movie explores the heritage and self-image within a family, revealing profound societal problems that may stir contemplation and resonate strongly with many viewers.
Irena Taskovski, as CEO and chief acquisition officer at Taskovski Films, described “Light Memories” as an “enchanting exploration of the hidden aspects of family history, self-discovery, and inherited emotional wounds.
She incorporated the movie in such a manner that it harmoniously combines elements of photography and cinematography, encouraging viewers globally to contemplate the enduring impacts of fatherless existence, racial prejudice, and societal bias.
The movie was jointly created by Mayfe Ortega Haboud, along with Isabela Parra Puente, under the banners of Caleidoscopio Cine and Tiempo Filmproduktion, respectively.
The film has received backing from the Ministry of Culture of Ecuador as well as the IDFA Bertha Fund. It also benefited from various other development labs such as the IDFA Project Space, LABED UPF Barcelona School of Management, and Conecta, Corporación Chilena del Documental.
Ortega Haboud’s latest works encompass “Oficios y Andares” (2022), a dynamic documentary exploring the intersection of craftsmanship and urban change within Quito’s historical neighborhoods, specifically focusing on the effects of gentrification.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’d be thrilled to share that I, Vallejo Prut, have left an indelible mark in the world of photography. My works, “Al otro lado” (2016), “Siete punto Ocho” (2018), and “Secreto Sarayaku” (2020), have not only graced the shelves but also captured the hearts of many. Each of these photobooks has been honored with prestigious international accolades, a testament to their impact.
Vallejo Prut’s photography has been featured in numerous esteemed publications like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vice, Stern, and Marie Claire, to name a few. His works have also graced exhibitions such as the 2022 Biennial for Contemporary Photography (Germany), PHOTO 2022 Festival (Australia), Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles (France, 2018), and the First Latin American Foto Festival at the Bronx Documentary Center in New York (2018).
The interactive documentary “Secretsarayaku.net,” launched in 2020, has attracted over 20,000 viewers to date.
