In the future, Take-Two Interactive has revealed intentions to introduce multiple updates of previous games, and this announcement coincides with rumors of GTA 4 being adapted for contemporary gaming platforms and Red Dead Redemption II potentially arriving on the Switch 2. Regarding the Switch 2, Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, has expressed strong faith in the console, further sparking discussions about additional Take-Two games being released on this platform.
During Take-Two Interactive’s financial update presentation, a slide reveals some of the video games they plan to release in their upcoming fiscal years (2026, 2027, and 2028). By the close of FY 2028 (April 1, 2028), Take-Two has lined up a total of 38 games for release. However, only 12 of these titles have been officially announced at this time.
It’s expected that Take-Two Interactive Software still has several announcements left, but they also warned that some of these games may not reach completion or their release dates might be adjusted. They also mentioned the possibility of adding more games to their lineup.
As a devoted gamer, I’m thrilled about the diverse lineup of games on the horizon. We’ve got heavy hitters like GTA 6 and sports games in the pipeline, along with mobile titles. But what’s really generating buzz lately is the return of some favorites, the “new iterations of prior releases.” This excitement stems from the rumors swirling around the potential ports of classics like GTA 4 and RDR2. Interestingly, Take-Two defines this category as games that encompass “ports and remastered titles,” excluding sequels.
If it’s true that versions of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are coming out, they seem to fit into the category of remakes or ports. Word has it that the GTA 4 port is being developed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a possible release by the end of this year. On the other hand, Spanish sources Gamereactor Espana and Nintenduo, as reported today on May 16, suggest that Rockstar is creating a version of Red Dead Redemption 2 specifically for the Switch 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2, first unveiled in 2018, can now be played on Xbox and PlayStation gaming systems, along with personal computers. Not long ago, it surpassed a staggering 74 million units sold.
During a recent earnings discussion, Zelnick was inquired about potential Switch 2 adaptations for more games, to which he replied that it’s not guaranteed every game will be moved to the platform. However, he emphasized there is an excellent chance some of its older games could be transferred to the Switch 2.
Regarding Fiscal Year 2026 (ending on April 1, 2026), Take-Two has announced that they will release four new versions of existing titles, among them are Civilization VII for VR and a Nintendo Switch version. The identities of the other two releases are yet to be revealed; speculation suggests they could possibly be remasters of Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
“Really good“
According to an interview with The Game Business, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed optimism about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and plans to bring more content for the console at launch than they have for any previous Nintendo platform. So far, four games have been confirmed for the Switch 2: Civilization VII, Borderlands 4, the next installments of NBA 2K and WWE 2K. Zelnick added that while it’s still uncertain how the Switch 2 will perform, he is confident in its potential.
Zelnick also acknowledged that historically, Nintendo has excelled at backing their own games on their systems. However, he emphasized that Nintendo aims to alter this trend.
Historically, it’s been difficult for third parties like us in the Nintendo business,” Zelnick mentioned during the call. “However, Nintendo has been open about this issue, and we’re taking steps to improve the situation because we’re excited about the platform’s potential. Regarding what we can contribute to any platform, we evaluate it on a situation-by-situation basis. Of course, we want to be where our customers are.
