Taiwanese Drama ‘Islanders’ Sets International Prime Video Bow

The Taiwanese television show titled “Islanders” is preparing for a coordinated worldwide debut on various streaming services.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that my favorite new series is set to stream in various regions. In Taiwan, Singapore, and Indonesia, you can catch it on Catchplay+. If you’re based in Taiwan, you also have the option of watching it on Line TV. For my fellow viewers in Hong Kong, Now TV will be your go-to platform.

For our international friends, don’t worry, you won’t miss out! Amazon Prime Video will broadcast the show across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, excluding Taiwan, South Korea, China (including Hong Kong and Macau). And for those in Taiwan, South Korea, or China who prefer a weekly viewing experience, tune in to the Catchplay Movie Channel every Sunday. Enjoy the series!

The story revolves around a wealthy businessman whose personal life is put under the microscope as he deals with his wife, longtime lover, and younger associate. A heated argument at dinner that goes viral sets off a chain of events leading to his fall from grace and an unexpected comeback, causing a nationwide uproar. Meanwhile, his trusted assistant starts doubting his principles and seeks personal growth.

The story is located in Taipei during the 2010s, a time when social media was growing popular. It delves into the conflicts between generations, personal transformations, and the psychological impact of societal opinions as Taiwan undergoes rapid change.

This show boasts an internationally diverse cast, headlined by the widely recognized Christopher Lee, a figure familiar in Singapore and Malaysia. Additionally, Wu Kang-Jen, a multi-award winner at the Golden Horse and Golden Bell Awards, is part of the ensemble. The cast also includes Rima Zeidan, who has won both Taipei Film Awards and Golden Horse Awards, seasoned actor Yu Tzu-Yu, and Yusuke Fukuchi from Japan.

The show is jointly directed by Ler Jiyuan, a renowned Singaporean filmmaker who has worked on “Invisible Stories” for HBO Asia, and Tsai Pao-Chang, an esteemed Taiwanese theater director. Filming was done in various places such as Taiwan and the United States, with sites including New York and Alaska.
