The narrative unfolds as you find yourself imprisoned, taunted and ridiculed by a Malevolent Clergyman. These Malevolent Clergymen have been performing twisted experiments on their subjects, altering them and desecrating their remains in a misguided quest to conquer the Plague of the Red Death. The game effectively instills loathing for these clergymen from the outset, and you frequently encounter them during your trek across the continent.

During the progression of Act 2, it’s discovered that some of Vrell’s books, containing tales about Liliana, have mysteriously vanished. These very books were considered heretical and brought doom to a local Red Priest. The priest, Brother Ismat, has been openly criticizing these books, and there’s suspicion he might be the thief.

As you meet with the priest, it becomes clear that he is the one who took the books. He did this in an attempt to shield others from temptation and will go on about his religious convictions. If you decide to challenge him, you’ll find yourself engaged in a debate where you’ll need to thoughtfully respond to his questions and refute his arguments.
