Sylvester Stallone’s $1.9B Hit Franchise Is Heading to Netflix Ahead of New Spinoff Series

Fans of the popular Rocky and Creed movies will soon be able to stream them on Netflix. The films, starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, will be available next month.

I’m so excited! Netflix is getting all the Rocky movies starting June 1st! They’re adding the original Rocky from 1976, plus Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V, and Rocky Balboa from 2006. It’s a little strange that Rocky II isn’t included yet, but maybe it’ll be added later. And that’s not all – the Creed movies are coming too, starting with the first one from 2015, and both Creed II and Creed III will be available as well. Perfect for a weekend marathon!

Stallone’s Performance in Rocky Was One for the Record Books

The Rocky movies follow the journey of Rocky Balboa, a boxer from Philadelphia, as he climbs the ranks in his profession. The first film was released in 1976 and tells the story of how a relatively unknown fighter gets a chance to compete for the world heavyweight title. The role of Rocky was transformative for both the character and for actor Sylvester Stallone, becoming a defining moment in his career.

As a film buff, I’ve always been fascinated by Rocky. It really exploded into the cultural zeitgeist, and it’s incredible that Stallone himself wrote and directed most of the sequels! The original film, and several others, received Academy Award nominations – and the first Rocky actually won Best Picture, Director, and Film Editing! Honestly, calling it a classic probably doesn’t even do it justice. The franchise has had such a lasting impact; it’s spawned countless memes and even turned the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art into the iconic ‘Rocky Steps’ – it’s pretty amazing!

The impact of Rocky goes far beyond just being a popular cultural touchstone; it’s also been a remarkably profitable movie series. The original film was made with a small $1 million budget but earned over $225 million globally. Later installments have consistently brought in close to $200 million each, with Rocky IV being the biggest hit at $300 million. Rocky V was the least successful, earning $119 million.

The entire Rocky and Creed series has earned over $1.9 billion worldwide. That’s a remarkable achievement, particularly since many of the sequels haven’t received great reviews. The first two Rocky films were well-received by critics, but opinions were more divided on the third, fourth, and fifth installments. The original Rocky currently has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Rocky IV and Rocky V scored much lower at 39% and 32%, respectively.

Michael B. Jordan Returns to Rocky with new Delphi Spinoff

In May 2025, Prime Video announced a new series set mainly in the gyms featured in the Rocky and Creed movies. The show will center around a group of up-and-coming boxers, but details about the plot—and whether Sylvester Stallone or Michael B. Jordan will appear—are still unknown.

Marco Ramirez, known for his work on Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders, will lead the creative side of the new series as showrunner. Jordan and Liz Raposo will serve as executive producers. Currently, details about Delphi, including its release date on Prime Video, are being kept secret, but more information is expected soon, potentially as early as this month.

The Rocky and Creed movie collections will make their Netflix debut on June 1, 2026.
