Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Split Fiction’ Movie Moves to Amazon—Exciting Adaptation Announced

Prior to the launch of the “Split Fiction” video game, news broke about its movie adaptation. Just like players rushing through levels in the popular couch co-op game by Hazelight Studios, things progressed swiftly with the film. Sydney Sweeney was the initial cast member associated with the project, followed by director Jon M. Chu. Now, the project has escalated to a new stage, as a studio has taken it up for production and active development will commence.

According to Variety, Amazon Studios is developing the movie “Split Fiction,” written by Chu and Sweeney, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (known for writing “Deadpool” and “Wolverine”) penning the script. The extent of the script that has been completed so far isn’t clear yet. Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg from Story Kitchen, along with Chu’s studio Electric Somewhere, are producing the film. Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis from Hazelight Studios serve as executive producers.

In a statement after the announcement, Wolontis expressed his conviction that ‘Split Fiction’ had immense potential to be an outstanding film right from its early stages at Hazelight. With such a talented creative team consisting of Jon M. Chu, Sydney Sweeney, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, along with Story Kitchen, the project has a real chance of becoming something extraordinary. Since day one, they have been ardent supporters and enthusiasts of this project. We eagerly anticipate seeing their vision for this movie unfold, and we’re excited about collaborating with them to bring Mio and Zoe to the big screen.

What is ‘Split Fiction’ About?

After the extraordinary achievement of Hazelight’s “It Takes Two,” which is also being developed into a movie, “Split Fiction” was one of the highly anticipated video game launches in 2025. The narrative revolves around Mio and Zoe, two writers who find themselves imprisoned within their science fiction and fantasy realms when someone attempts to pilfer their creative concepts. The game maximizes cooperative gameplay, as it necessitates two players working together to conquer the assorted puzzles in both sci-fi and fantasy landscapes.

It’s undecided if Sydney Sweeney will portray either Mio or Zoe. Given her likeness to Zoe from the game, it seems she’s more likely to take on that role, but unexpected twists can occur in film adaptations. The studio is currently seeking a co-star for Sydney Sweeney to play Mio.

Over the next few years, Hazelight Studios will be kept quite occupied. In addition to their upcoming title, Split Fiction, and their next video game, they are also transforming two of their most cherished games into movies. The movie version of It Takes Two has been stuck in developmental hold since its announcement, slow to move beyond the tutorial stage. Details about the progress of Hazelight’s previous game, A Way Out, being adapted into a film are scarce as well.
