Sydney Sweeney Shows Off Her Mullet and Muscles as Boxer Christy Martin in Sports Biopic: ‘I’ve Been Immersed in Training’

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for gritty biopics and tales of resilience, I find myself intrigued by the latest project Sydney Sweeney has taken on – portraying the indomitable Christy Martin in an upcoming sports biopic.

Sydney Sweeney recently posted images showcasing her transformation as Christy Martin, the boxer, in an imminent biography film. In these snaps, she’s rocking a classic ’90s hairstyle – a mullet – and has noticeably bulked up to convincingly portray the ex-athlete’s physique.

Since some photographers hiding in bushes revealed it, here’s a sneak peek into the project I’m currently working on – my movie!” (Sweeney wrote on Instagram)

She’s taking on the role of Martin in an as-yet-unnamed sports biopic being filmed under the direction of David Michod. Martin is a former professional boxer who held the super welterweight world title in 2009, and competed from 1989 to 2012. Tragically, she was attacked by her husband, James Martin, in 2010. He stabbed and shot her at their Florida residence, but she miraculously survived. Later that year, James was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison.

For the past few months, I’ve been deeply engrossed in learning about an extraordinary woman’s life – a real-life heroine who waged battles not only within the confines of the ring but also beyond it. Her tale is a shining example of resilience, strength, and optimism, and I feel privileged to take on this role, bringing her inspiring narrative to you all. Stay tuned for more updates soon 🙂 – CHRISTY MARTIN.

2020 marked the year when Martin was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame through their inaugural ballot that recognized female boxers for the first time.

In the upcoming biopic, Ben Foster portrays James Martin, with Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman, and Tony Cavalero joining him in the cast. This movie is a collaborative effort from Anonymous Content, Black Bear Pictures, Fifty-Fifty Films, Votiv, and Yoki Inc. producing companies.
