She shared how she’s been pushing herself to get “crazy strong” for this role, demonstrating once again that she’s not just a gaming champion, but a real-life one too!

Sydney Sweeney’s Christy Martin prep had “crazy” effect on body

In conversation with W, Sydney Sweeney shared that her body underwent a significant change. Clothes from her usual wardrobe no longer fitted. She found herself wearing a size 27 in jeans, which is typically a size 23 for her. Her breasts grew larger and her posterior expanded noticeably.

“It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god. But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

It’s reported that Sweeney put on approximately 30 pounds to portray Martin, who was famously recognized as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” from 1989 to 2012, and even won the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009.

Initial indications point towards the movie tracing her journey from an obscure boxer in the ’90s to a renowned female pugilist in America, followed by her husband’s attempted assassination in 2010.

The film is likely going to show how she became famous as a boxer in the ’90s and then what happened with her husband trying to kill her in 2010.

Sweeney stated, “I absolutely adored it! I joined to portray Christy, and my preparation involved nearly four months of training. My day began with an hour of weightlifting, followed by approximately two hours of kickboxing in the afternoon, and ended with another hour of weightlifting in the evening.

Following the wrap of the shoot, Sweeney had a span of seven weeks to shed off the extra pounds that she accumulated, which was necessary for her upcoming role in Euphoria Season 3.

David Michôd, the director, commented, “Martin made women’s boxing famous in the mid-’90s. She was the first female fighter to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated and fought on the same card as Mike Tyson. Her husband trained her, but after her success, he attempted to kill her. Our film combines an uplifting tale of a sports underdog with a personal story of struggle.

Sydney worked tirelessly to prepare for the role. What’s remarkable about Sydney is that she always arrived at work with a cheerful disposition, eager to perform. Even when things got challenging, she radiated positivity.

The biopic is currently untitled and has no set release date.
