Sydney Sweeney first gained widespread recognition through her roles in popular HBO series like Euphoria and The White Lotus, which led to opportunities in films. Though she’s explored various genres, her romantic comedy Anyone But You, and the strong connection she shared with her co-star Glenn Powell, really captured the public’s attention and boosted her career. While she’s appeared in films like Madame Web and the biopic Christy, it was her performance in last year’s thriller The Housemaid that truly made her a global sensation.
The actor who starred in The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret is coming back for the sequel, but she’s also landed another thriller role. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed she’ll be starring in The Caretaker, a film based on an upcoming novel by Marcus Kliewer. Not much is known about the project yet, as Kliewer’s novel hasn’t been published.

The new story centers around a young woman who takes a short-term job in the Oregon wilderness because she needs money. The publisher explains that the job, which seems strange at first, quickly turns terrifying. A mysterious and powerful evil may be present on the property, and Macy Mullins could be the only one who can stop it from threatening everyone.
Like The Housemaid, the new movie The Caretaker is based on a novel. However, its description suggests it will be much more of a horror film than a thriller, promising a truly frightening experience. Adding to the anticipation, The Caretaker is directed by David Bruckner, known for his work on The Night House and the 2022 Hellraiser reboot.
While Sydney Sweeney is now known for a variety of roles, she actually started her acting career with horror films. Early in her career, she appeared in lower-budget movies like ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction and Spiders 3D. She also had a small role in The Ward (2010), which is the most recent feature film directed by renowned horror director John Carpenter after a 16-year hiatus.
The COVID-19 pandemic hindered the performance of some of Sweeney’s other films. Her 2020 thriller, Nocturne, where she played a troubled music student, received a quiet release on Prime Video. The following year, she starred in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs on the same platform, playing one half of a couple who suspected their neighbor of murder—a premise reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window.
While The Voyeurs didn’t initially gain much attention, it’s since developed a dedicated fanbase thanks to its surprising plot and Sydney Sweeney’s rising popularity. This film also marked a collaboration with director Michael Mohan, and they’ve teamed up again for the 2024 NEON film Immaculate, where Sweeney plays a nun who finds herself caught in a sinister scheme at her convent.
