Switch 2’s rumble feature disables itself after “prolonged use”

Owners of the Nintendo Switch 2 have shared experiences where the console turns off the vibration function after extended periods of use, if it senses such prolonged usage.

It’s unclear what specifically defines the undetermined timeframe, but since the console was launched on June 5, 2025, there have been numerous reports on social media about the automated response acting strangely or erratically.

On the Switch 2 subreddit, one user reported, “After approximately an hour and a half of portable gameplay, I started getting this message.” They further noted that now the message appears within the initial 20 minutes. The user asked if anyone else was encountering the same problem.

In the picture you’ve shared, it appears that the user’s Nintendo Switch 2, while playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, shows a message saying, “Vibration has been deactivated because of extended play.

What’s the cause?

Currently, there’s no indication on Nintendo’s help center that the vibration function in the Switch 2 is experiencing any problems, be it malfunctioning or failing entirely.

In the same Reddit discussion, multiple users reported encountering the same issue after playing for anywhere between five to twenty minutes. Notably, these users were specifically playing CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 when they experienced this problem.

The Switch 2’s battery life, which can last from two to six hours while not connected to its dock, might be Nintendo’s strategy to conserve power or avoid overheating. Keep in mind that this is just a guess.

TopMob has contacted Nintendo for more information.
