After everyone had a chance to calm down following yesterday’s Nintendo Direct and the announcement of the Switch 2 release date, there’s been some silence about when pre-orders will begin, but we do know they start on April 8th. However, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Yes, we received numerous exciting announcements like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza that look fantastic, a new FromSoftware exclusive called The Duskbloods, and even Kirby Air Riders is making a return! But all this excitement can’t overshadow one significant mistake made by Nintendo: the paid tech demo for the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
Why isn’t Switch 2 Welcome Tour free?
As a devoted fan, it appears the enigmatic “C” button turns out to be quite a nifty and practical addition. And, the once neglected GameCube is receiving some well-deserved attention – with a specialized controller for the Switch 2 in the works and a classic game collection on its way to Nintendo Switch Online. They’ve already confirmed 10 games for the lineup, but I can’t help but yearn for at least another 10 titles to join the roster.
Regarding the exciting aspects to discuss, it’s undeniable that there are some choices that might raise eyebrows. It seems reasonable for everyone to concur that the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour should be included free of charge with the console – much like how Astro’s Playroom was bundled with the PS5. Frankly, it’s hard not to wonder about Nintendo’s thought process on this matter.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Introduction Tour isn’t really a game, but rather a tech demonstration showcasing all the new features and explaining how to use the Switch 2. Since we get to examine the console and play mini-games within it, wouldn’t it make sense for this demo to be included free of charge on every Nintendo Switch 2 system, similar to Wii Sports?
In many regions, the Nintendo Wii was packaged with Wii Sports, which significantly contributed to its popularity. With engaging, user-friendly games such as bowling, tennis, and boxing that allowed us to experience motion controls, it’s only logical that the same approach could be applied to the Switch 2.
It’s not just this that’s concerning; upon further inspection, securing a Switch 2 on its release day appears challenging. The unique aspect of the launch bundle including a digital version of Mario Kart: World marks a first for Nintendo. Additionally, the escalating prices of Switch 2 games are making the humor about GTA VI’s high cost increasingly relevant.
