Switch 2 Launch Game Offers Three-Player Co-Op With Just One Copy

At its launch on Nintendo Switch 2, the game titled “Survival Kids” will offer a three-player cooperative mode, requiring only a single copy of the game for multiple players to enjoy together. Additionally, those who own the original Nintendo Switch can also participate in the gameplay.

Despite some technical hiccups during its unveiling in the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, when the livestream momentarily froze following the game’s trailer debut (an issue that seems deeply etched in the minds of internet users, who show no signs of forgetting or forgiving), Survival Kids is an exclusive title for the Switch 2 that resurrects a classic Konami franchise. Developed by Unity, it’s a cooperative survival adventure game where a band of children are left stranded on a deserted island. They must use their ingenuity to craft tools and solve puzzles in order to stay alive.

The game’s preview video highlights four-player cooperation, but it’s worth noting that Survival Kids supports three-player local co-op even with just one game copy due to the multiplayer capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 (GameShare feature).

The individual holding the game has the ability to broadcast it via GameShare to up to two additional Nintendo Switch 2 or Switch 1 systems. However, they will require GameChat (which necessitates a Nintendo Online subscription) to utilize this feature effectively. In a two-player cooperative setting, Survival Kids operates at a smooth 60 frames per second, while a three-player setup runs at 30 frames per second. This feature could make Survival Kids an excellent choice for homes with multiple Switch owners who prefer not to purchase multiple copies of the game but still desire a shared gaming experience.

On the Nintendo Switch 2, it isn’t just Survival Kids that employs the GameShare feature; other titles also utilize this function, some even enabling remote sharing rather than just local. For instance, Super Mario Party Jamboree on Switch 2 supports GameShare but is limited to local sharing only. On the contrary, games originally released on the Nintendo Switch 1 like Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury can be shared either locally or online when played on a Switch 2.

According to Nintendo’s GameShare page, additional Nintendo Switch 1 games will soon be playable using GameShare thanks to free software updates. However, only the player on Switch 2 can share the game; Switch 1 users will temporarily gain access to the shared game during the GameShare session.

Survival Kids, and the Nintendo Switch 2, launch June 5.
