Switch 2 Is Not Coming Before April 2025, Devs Reportedly Say

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen the evolution of consoles since the days of the NES, hearing whispers of Nintendo’s next big move always stirs a sense of anticipation within me. The Switch, with its versatility and innovative design, has been a game-changer in my gaming life, so I eagerly await the unveiling of its successor.

A number of developers believe the next Nintendo console may not be released until well into 2025.

During his appearance on the GI Podcast, journalist Christopher Dring aimed to dispel a widely circulated speculation suggesting that Nintendo could launch their new console, presumed to succeed the Switch, before the conclusion of its fiscal year, which falls on March 31, 2025.

As a devoted follower, I haven’t heard a single developer anticipate its release within this fiscal year. On the contrary, they’ve been explicitly informed not to hold their breath for it this year. However, there’s a collective optimism among those I’ve spoken with, as they’re hoping for an April/May launch instead.

For a while, there has been uncertainty about when Nintendo will release their new console. Initially, it was thought to come out by the end of 2024; however, recent rumors indicate a delay until early 2025. The latest whispers even suggest that an April 2025 launch could be unlikely.

Previously, Nintendo had announced plans to unveil the successor to the Switch, tentatively named the Switch 2, before the end of this financial year. Remarkably, it seems that the new console will bear a resemblance to its predecessor, which is intriguing given the marked differences between the Switch and its predecessors like the Wii U.

2017 saw the debut of the original Nintendo Switch. Since then, different iterations of this gaming console have been released, such as the Switch Lite and most recently, the Switch OLED. It’s rumored that the next model could feature Nvidia’s custom T239 processor, allowing it to run Death Stranding at 1080p resolution with a steady frame rate of 35fps.
