Switch 2 Images Have Allegedly Leaked, Suggesting Powerful Leap Forward For Nintendo

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism regarding these latest rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2. I remember the excitement that surrounded the release of the original Switch, and the thought of an upgraded version has me eagerly tapping my feet.

Online, unconfirmed photos of what’s allegedly the successor to the Nintendo Switch have surfaced, showing a device that doesn’t represent a major breakaway from the existing Switch design. The images hint at several changes: an enlarged eight-inch screen, Joy-Cons that attach magnetically instead of the current model’s clips, and a substantial hardware upgrade compared to the current console.

Initially, the images of those pictures surfaced on a popular Chinese social media platform, later being shared on Reddit. Although Nintendo hasn’t officially stated anything about them, a reliable source informed Video Games Chronicle (VGC) that the pictures on Reddit correspond to the anticipated design of the final Switch 2 model as per what their partners have been briefed.

The new Switch 2 model is rumored to boast an upgrade in RAM (from 4GB to 12GB), HDMI 2.1 compatibility, and a larger internal storage capacity of 256GB. Leaked designs suggest changes in the SL/SR buttons and LED layout for the controllers. Nintendo has been tight-lipped about its upcoming system, only hinting that they aim to astonish and delight fans upon its official unveiling.

There have been numerous whispers about the final layout of the Switch 2, and more recently, it’s been suggested that an announcement for the Switch 2 might occur sometime between late September and early October. Nintendo hasn’t given detailed information yet, but back in the spring, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa did hint that the announcement for the Switch 2 will happen before the end of their current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

Despite Nintendo staying silent, the creators of My Time at Evershine, Pathea Games, have disclosed that their game will appear on upcoming Nintendo systems that are still unannounced.
