Switch 2 Has Extra Features For Nintendo 64 Games You Can’t Get On Switch

In their announcement, Nintendo shared that the new iteration of Nintendo Switch, referred to as Switch 2, will include enhanced features for its Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 library. Unlike the original Switch, these upgraded versions on Switch 2 will enable players to rewind gameplay and apply CRT filters. This means you can go back in your game and also experience a retro look for an improved gaming experience!

In a newly released video, Nintendo showcased the upcoming Rewind and CRT filters for N64 games on the Switch 2. The Rewind function enables players to go back in time within their game by scrolling through a sequence of images. This essentially gives players an opportunity to retry challenging sections of Mario Kart 64 tracks or improve their strokes in Mario Golf with a do-over.

The CRT filter allows gamers to incorporate a vintage look into their Nintendo 64 gaming experience by adding simulated scan lines to the games. This gives the games a feel similar to how they would have appeared in the ’90s. Although the Switch 2’s modern, high-resolution screen differs significantly from the large TVs that N64 was initially intended for, it’s enjoyable to have this retro option for those seeking nostalgic ambiance.

In the new Switch 2 console, Nintendo has uniquely designed two distinct settings, but they’re also extending customizable control options for N64 games over both Switch 2 and the original Switch. This means players can tailor their controllers according to their preferred gaming techniques. It seems that these adjustments are made on a title-by-title basis.

Starting next week, it’s been quite challenging to secure a preorder for the Switch 2 (particularly within the U.S.). Alongside the updated N64 titles, a collection of brand-new games and improved editions of existing Switch games are set to debut.
