Switch 2 First-Party Game Sizes Are Apparently Pretty Manageable, At Least So Far

It falls to Nintendo to strive for managing game file sizes, even in an era where popular titles require more than 100GB of storage on consoles. Some exclusive Switch 2 games are said not to exceed 10GB, with Mario Kart World being the only one known so far that surpasses the 20GB threshold.

In simple terms, the U.S. version of the Nintendo Store hasn’t showcased any games for the Switch 2 yet, but according to IGN, the Japanese store has listed four potential Switch 2 titles. The site also indicates that there are currently four Switch 2 games and the Nintendo GameCube app for Switch Online + Expansion Pack members who have extra space on their devices.

  • Mario Kart World – 23.4GB
  • Donkey Kong Bananza – 10GB
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV – 7.7GB
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World – 5.7GB
  • Nintendo GameCube app – 3.5GB

The second model will boast an internal storage of 256GB, expandable using microSD Express cards. This implies that Mario Kart World (if purchased digitally) would occupy approximately 10% of the system’s built-in storage on the hybrid device. On the other hand, Cyberpunk 2077 can be accommodated on a 64GB physical cartridge for Switch 2, suggesting it would consume roughly the same amount of space digitally. Nintendo has also unveiled Game-Key Cards which function like physical cards but don’t store games locally. Instead, they serve as means to download titles, requiring insertion into the Switch 2 for play.
