Switch 2 Doesn’t Support Cloud Saves For Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

In contrast to the original Nintendo Switch version, the enhanced edition of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom does not offer cloud save functionality.

On the official store page for Tears of the Kingdom, it is indicated that this software does not include the cloud backup feature for paid memberships. However, unlike The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which also reportedly lacks cloud saves on Switch 2, its store page doesn’t carry a similar warning.

It seems that the disclaimer about save data storage only pops up on the U.S. and E.U. versions of Tears of the Kingdom’s store pages, while the Japanese version hints at requiring a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for this particular feature.

It was found out that, unlike the cloud-save compatible versions of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as well as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 edition does not support cloud saves.

As a dedicated Zelda fan, I find myself puzzled by an interesting quirk in the system. Previously played games from the original Nintendo Switch can be transferred to the new Switch 2, but here’s where it gets tricky: once you’ve moved your saves over to Switch 2, you won’t be able to create any new cloud saves for the version played on the second console. It’s a fascinating balance between continuity and progress, isn’t it?

In the updated versions of both Zelda games (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 2), you’ll find some enhanced features like the Zelda Notes application. This tool helps players discover hidden shrines and Korok Seeds throughout the game, along with earning in-game accomplishments.

Nintendo has confirmed that players can continue enjoying their initial Switch games even when they upgrade to the Switch 2, although enhanced features and content exclusive to the Switch 2 can only be accessed on the new console. However, due to some Switch 2 versions not offering cloud saves, there is uncertainty about how game progress will migrate from the original Switch to the upgraded one.
