Reframes as: Kevin Costner, who played in Field of Dreams, simply showed kindness when recalling that he recognized Matt Damon and himself as extras during the Fenway Park scene in the movie.
On the show, Kevin spoke about the impact that Affleck and Damon had during filming. Affleck jokingly replied, “Kevin is being gracious when he says he remembers us because we weren’t standout“. He added with a chuckle, “I think he probably recalls the actors who had lines instead“. Earlier on Jimmy Kimmel, Costner reminisced about Affleck and Damon being ‘ablaze’ during their time on Field of Dreams in the late 80s.
Affleck also recounted an instance when Costner left a lasting impression on him and Damon during filming. “I recall we felt that actors were somewhat fraudulent…but Costner stepped up to the plate for batting practice,” Affleck stated. “We expected him to miss the mark, but let me tell you, he smashed numerous balls towards the green monster…even hit a homerun! It was truly amazing.” He continued by saying that encountering Costner on the set of Field of Dreams felt like meeting a divine being.
In the same conversation, Affleck couldn’t resist teasing Damon while complimenting Costner’s athleticism. Affleck joked, “Listen to this interview where Matt claims he hit a ball over Fenway Park’s Green Monster.” Affleck then added humorously, “Matt, it sounds like you’re reminiscing about being Kevin Costner instead of yourself!
Affleck Says His Own Children Roast His Old Movie Roles
Initially, Affleck and Damon began their acting journey together as mere extras in “Field of Dreams,” but they both have since forged illustrious careers, starring in movies such as “Good Will Hunting,” “The Sum of All Fears,” “Gone Girl,” and even taking on the role of Batman. Despite the diversity of his roles, not even Affleck can escape teasing from his kids. During an interview with Kimmel, the actor confessed that he attempted to rewatch his films with his children during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they didn’t seem too interested.
During the COVID period, all the kids were at home and I suggested, “Hey, let’s watch a movie.” A thought popped into my mind, “Perhaps they might enjoy Armageddon.” However, their response was swift, “What? This is ridiculous, are you joking?” My son exclaimed, “This doesn’t make sense at all.” Despite not being well-received by his children, Affleck’s Armageddon was a massive commercial triumph when it debuted in 1998, earning over $550 million globally and garnering renewed interest in recent months.
Affleck made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show to publicize his upcoming film, “The Accountant 2,” currently playing in cinemas.
