Survivor 50 Somehow Got Mike White to Come Back

When your work involves visiting luxurious hotels and describing hardships, a holiday seems like more hardship on an isolated island. Mike White is among the notable figures returning for Survivor’s 50th season, seven years after his initial participation in Survivor: David vs. Goliath. This was long before he began creating the most successful television show, The White Lotus, which premiered in 2021. Interestingly, Angelina Keeley, a fellow David vs. Goliath castaway and a character from the second season of White Lotus, will also be returning. White has included contestants from his original season on every season of the HBO drama; is he simply going back to Survivor in search of his next cast? Here’s what we currently know about Survivor 50.

Who’s in the cast?

This upcoming season will include contestants from as far back as the very first episode of the show, right up to Survivor 49, which hasn’t been aired yet. We’re particularly looking forward to Chrissy Hofbeck’s comeback, who unfortunately fell victim to the final-four fire-making twist in her debut season.

What’s the theme?

As a diehard fan, I’m excited to announce that Survivor 50 will be referred to as “Survivor: In the Hands of the Fans.” During season 48, we, the fans, had the power to decide various aspects of the game online. An interesting twist, though, is that the players won’t know what decisions we made until it actually happens. Among the categories that will be implemented in the upcoming season are “To Play with Idols or Not,” “Final-Four Fire-Making: Keep It or Let It Go,” and “Will the Live Finale and Reunion Show take place in L.A., or will the winner reveal and aftershow continue in the jungles of Fiji.

When will it air?

As a cinephile eagerly anticipating it, I must admit that while the cast for Survivor 50 is now set, we won’t get to watch it until next spring, following the airing of season 49 in the fall. In the interim, there’s ample time for prospective viewers like myself to delve into the past 48 seasons of the series. Alternatively, one could spend the waiting period catching up on just three seasons of White Lotus instead.
