Survivor 50 Just Started Filming, And Fans Are Already Arguing About The First Boot

For new seasons of Survivor, die-hard fans often engage in some light speculation and predictions based on promotional materials. However, most regular viewers don’t typically start making guesses about the season’s direction until a few episodes have been aired. This is not usually the case for returning seasons, especially significant ones like milestone seasons.

In the past, social media didn’t operate as it does now when “Heroes Vs Villains” was released, but there were still many predictions about “Winners at War”. Similarly, speculation abounds regarding “Survivor 50“, and currently, the majority of discussion revolves around who is likely to be eliminated first.

In the upcoming season, every contestant has previously reached the merge point; hence, no player stands out as an obvious first elimination. While reading various online posts and listening to podcast discussions, some names appear to be mentioned more frequently than others. Generally, it’s not about the individual players but rather groups of players who might face challenges.

Initially, one set of participants consists of past champions. For quite some time, many spectators believed that none of these past champions would be included in the lineup. However, Season 40 specifically focused on champions, leading fans to presume that the production team intended to bring in a large number of non-champions for Season 50. Consequently, it was assumed that they wouldn’t include any champions at all. It appears now that this assumption is incorrect.

The program surprisingly chose to incorporate the latest champions, Kyle and Dee, yet left out any of the original pioneers. I voiced my disapproval about this in my feedback to the cast primarily because it sets them up as clear targets. If the show aimed to introduce winners, they should have formed a whole tribe of winners or at least ensured two winners on every team at the very least.

It’s no wonder that Dee and Kyle are frequently predicted by fans as the first contestants to be eliminated from this post on social media, asking for exit predictions. They’ve also been a common topic in many Season 50 preview podcast discussions. The Survivor Specialists, in their video evaluating each player’s chances of winning, have delved deeply into Kyle and Dee’s prospects but have classified both as underdogs or longshots.

The group often considered as the first to be eliminated this season consists of players from Season 49 who are unfamiliar to us. It’s understandable that fans might show less interest in new, unseen faces, but it’s equally likely that the same sentiment applies to other players as well. There are two compelling reasons for this.

Initially, it’s important to note that ‘Survivor’ is a tight-knit group consisting of numerous participants from various seasons. Many of these individuals have formed genuine friendships off-screen, and these bonds aren’t always predictable. For instance, Charlie recently introduced his Season 50 colleague Coach at a music event because they share a friendship with another ‘Survivor’ player named Ben Katzman. There are numerous unexpected connections like this one, in addition to the more obvious ones for players who have already appeared on the same seasons.

In the second instance, Survivor contestants are often cautious towards newcomers they haven’t seen compete before. Familiar faces like Cirie are well-known, as everyone on the beach has a sense of her strategies from watching her numerous times. However, nobody knows anything about Rizz God, which could have been the case with Russell Hantz during ‘Heroes vs Villains.’ In contemporary play, players are unlikely to repeat that mistake.

In Survivor 50, due to a large number of contestants and an anticipated high number of days, it’s likely that only one tribe will have immunity following each pre-merge immunity challenge. This rapid elimination rate suggests that many players might be sent home before the merge. However, some participants from these categories might be among them, while I believe at least one will defy expectations and make a significant impact, potentially even reaching the later stages of the game.
