Surprising Squid Game Star Joins Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters Cast!

Netflix has unveiled the formal trailer for K-Pop Demon Hunters, and although this anime differs significantly from Squid Game, it boasts an intriguing collaboration between its cast and a well-known Korean television program.

In the world of streaming, Squid Game and K-Pop Demon Hunters couldn’t be more different. 

In one storyline, we follow a live-action, dystopian thriller where financially struggling participants engage in a lethal series of children’s games. As for the other, it’s an animated musical focused on a team of K-pop artists who secretly fight demons during their free time.

Notably, these two selections have something in common – they are both offerings from Netflix. Yet, there is more to discover. If you examine the list of voice actors, you will notice a well-known figure at the top.

KPop Demon Hunters voice cast includes major Squid Game star

Lee Byung-hun, known for his role as Hwang In-ho (also known as the Front Man) from Squid Game, is lending his voice to the character of Gwi-Ma in KPop Demon Hunters.

Byung-hun delivers outstanding performances in all projects he takes on. His portrayal as a formidable adversary in Squid Game is remarkable, but his acting talent has also been demonstrated in numerous blockbuster films over the years, such as A Bittersweet Life and I Saw the Devil.

In the Netflix series KPop Demon Hunters, these talented artists – EJAE, Audrey Nuna, REI AMI, Andrew Choi, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee, Neckwav, and Lea Salonga – will be showcasing their vocal skills by performing original songs.

Despite limited knowledge about his personality, it has ignited speculations. One enthusiastic fan penned down an idea for a possible plot twist that could unfold during the climactic scene.

In the movie, it’s likely that Jinu will play the role of the main villain throughout most of its duration. However, there’s a chance that Gwi-Ma could emerge as the surprising antagonist in the climactic fight scene. It would certainly be unusual if this were to occur…

As a fellow enthusiast, I must admit, it’s disappointing not to catch a glimpse of his voice in the trailer. I had been eagerly anticipating hearing him, and alas, they didn’t deliver on that front.

Thankfully, there’s not long to wait, as Kpop Demon Hunters hits Netflix on June 20, 2025. 

KPop Demon Hunter has a star-packed voice cast

Looking forward, the remaining cast members offer much anticipation as Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo will lend their voices to the popular girl band characters named Rumi, Mira, and Zoey respectively.

Apart from being recognized for her exceptional singing skills, Cho is also widely famed for portraying Kira Yukimura in Teen Wolf and June in the Netflix version of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

In case you’re familiar, Hong is well-known for her acting work in shows like High Maintenance, Hacks, and Tales of the City. On the other hand, Ji-young can be recognized for her appearances in Expats, Moxie, and the recently released film Until Dawn.

Ahn Hyo-seop joins the cast with an impressive resume, having gained recognition through popular K-dramas like “A Time Called You”, “Business Proposal”, and both seasons of “Dr. Romantic”.

In the series “KPop Demon Hunters,” he portrays Jinu, a member of a competing boy band that happens to be hiding their true identities as demons.

In addition, the characters are played by Yunjin Kim (Celine), Ken Jeong (Bobby), and Daniel Dae Kim (Healer Han) who have previously appeared in shows like Lost, Community, The Hangover, Money Heist: Korea, and XO Kitty.

In the end, comedian Joel Kim Booster from Big Mouth and actress Liza Koshy known for her role in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts assume hosting duties for the upcoming film.

In a conversation with Netflix, co-director and writer Chris Appelhans shared that we’ve assembled a fantastic ensemble of voice actors, and it’s the depth and versatility of their performances that lends the movie its unique flavor.

Byung Hun Lee and Ahn Hyo-seop provide genuine emotional depth that is characteristic of K-dramas, while Arden, May, and Ji-young seamlessly combine the allure of established K-pop artists with the relatability and humor of young women navigating two distinct lives in an extraordinary manner.
