Superman trailer reveals one big similarity to this Zack Snyder movie

The freshly released teaser for James Gunn’s Superman is astonishing, however, some fans have noted a significant resemblance between it and Zack Snyder‘s Batman vs Superman.

In July this year, following a trial run with Creature Commandos, Gunn’s DC Universe will make its official debut on the big screen, with Superman leading the charge as part of a reimagined and hopefully renewed franchise.

Unlike Man of Steel, Superman: The Sequel doesn’t introduce the main character; rather, it dives viewers into a world already populated by divine beings, monstrous creatures, and everyone in between. This could include characters like Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, or his longtime adversary, Lex Luthor.

The upcoming movie deviates significantly in terms of tone and aesthetics from the SnyderVerse, yet it continues one of the major themes introduced in BvS: the complexities of Superman’s role as a superhero, particularly the political aspects surrounding his actions.

Superman and Batman v Superman have a very similar idea

The new trailer opens with Lois Lane interviewing Superman – and, crucially, not Clark Kent.

Lately, it seems you’re facing a barrage of criticism… today, the Secretary of Defense expressed her intention to scrutinize your actions, but Superman remains puzzled since he prevented a conflict, which would have been a war.

Essentially, you’ve broken the law by entering a country without permission… have you discussed this with the president? That’s what Lois is asking. In a similar scenario, I would ponder over the potential outcomes as well.

Towards the end of the preview, Lex Luthor expresses frustration that he has somehow found himself at the center of all global discussions.

Imagine if, unbeknownst to him, James Gunn had not seen Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman” and inadvertently created a film with similar themes and style. #Superman

In case it rings a bell, that’s because Batman v Superman touches on similar themes. In Snyder’s movie, Superman is called to testify before Congress following his devastating battle against Zod in Metropolis. However, Lex Luthor doubts the true goodness of Superman. “If God is all-powerful, He cannot be entirely good,” he argues. “And if He’s all good then He cannot be all-powerful.” (Said from a passionate fan perspective)

It’s not implying that Superman directly mimicked Batman v Superman, or that Zack Snyder invented the idea of a hero facing consequences from the authorities. However, it’s a theme that some viewers have observed in the movie.

“It seems like the first user was saying, ‘To be fair, but Batman v Superman is essentially about the same thing,'” and “A second user commented that if you watch the first 30 seconds of the trailer, it appears to be a copied version of Batman v Superman.

“It’s worth noting that every film by Snyder for DC has the main character battling against the U.S. military-industrial establishment,” one person wrote. “Apparently, this guy thinks Batman v Superman introduced us to Superman and also politics,” another humorously commented when someone referred to Superman’s script as ‘spoon-fed’.

Imagine if James Gunn created a film similar to Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman’, sharing the same themes, without ever having seen it himself.
