It’s highly likely that James Gunn’s film will be a huge success. This movie, serving as the initial installment of DC Studios’ reboot within the DC Universe, recently unveiled its first trailer, offering a mix of action, heartwarming scenes, hidden references, appearances from notable figures, and a touching homage to the original Superman, Christopher Reeve.
The trailer offers fans a peek at David Corenswet portraying both the superhero and Clark Kent, his disguise. Notably, it showcases several guest appearances, such as María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nicholas Hoult assuming the role of Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion playing Green Lantern, a certain character, and others. Additionally, it includes an adorable tribute to the original Man of Steel actor Christopher Reeve, with his son stepping into the shoes of a new news anchor.
In the trailer, you can spot a brief appearance by Reeve’s son, Will Reeve, who portrays a news anchor, at exactly 2 minutes and 26 seconds. This fleeting scene is significant enough to be included in the initial trailer, even though it’s quick.
It’s no shock that he made an appearance, considering he is the son of the previous Superman actor who hinted at his character in a July 2024 interview with an unspecified media outlet. Reeve was filming on the set of Superman in Cleveland, Ohio in early July 2024, which resulted in a minor role. Notably, Reeve also portrays a news anchor in the movie. However, this came with considerable pressure.
He mentioned that he has good relationships with the people involved in the movie production, who have been exceptionally generous to him and his family. Since he happened to have a spare day, they managed to arrange it together.
Reeve joked about not being sure of what he could share. He expressed how it was an outstanding encounter, everyone was incredibly welcoming, and it was a breeze – surprisingly more nerve-wracking than his usual on-screen appearances for his regular job. This was due to the large number of people present, and the fact that he had to memorize just one line, yet… still!
Who Else Stars in Superman?
Besides David Corenswet donning the Superman suit (with the controversial briefs), he’ll be accompanied by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, his romantic interest. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Clark consents to an interview with Lois, offering viewers their first taste of Corenswet’s acting prowess as he shifts from Clark Kent to the superhero, altering his demeanor, tone, and stance. Unlike previous adaptations, this movie will bypass his origin tale and delve right into action.
In this upcoming franchise, Superman takes the lead role by launching a fresh lineup of superheroes. Among them are Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
In addition to the main actors, the cast includes Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Neva Howell as Martha Kent, among others. This upcoming Superman movie is written and directed by James Gunn, who shares the CEO role at DC Studios.
Superman flies to theaters on July 11.
