Attentive viewers of the latest Superman trailer have noticed two altered sequences, one showcasing Rachel Brosnahan’s portrayal of Lois Lane. Although James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot is due to hit screens in just two months, fans have had limited previews so far. These glimpses include a brief teaser from December and the recent full-length trailer released in May 2025, offering viewers a tantalizing glimpse into this upcoming cinematic adventure centered around the iconic superhero.
In the recently released trailer for the new “Superman” movie, it appears that there are two modifications made to the upcoming film since the debut of the initial teaser. The motivation behind these adjustments is unknown at this point, but it’s probably due to ongoing improvements being made to the summer blockbuster before its theater release.
In the initial scenes, you’ll notice modifications in the way Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman (for more details on Lois Lane’s character, check out Superman here) lifts Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and plants a kiss. This significant scene, ending the first preview trailer for Superman, now showcases an altered interaction between Superman’s cape and his body.
By examining both the teaser and the new trailer, it appears that the Superman’s cape now extends to cover his legs, unlike before when it left them exposed.
Now, Superman’s cape subtly falls past his shoulder, resting beneath Lois Lane’s hand rather than hanging flat on his back. This creates an impression that the cape has a new shape compared to its original form, though it could just be the camera angle during the scene featuring these iconic comic book characters.
A notable shift occurs when Superman appears to face intense public examination, with one disgruntled Metropolis citizen hurling a can at his head – this incident was noticed and reported by DCU Superman News.
Instead of wincing slightly when hit by a can in the old teaser, Corwenswet’s Kryptonian character remains unfazed in the new trailer, maintaining a steadfast demeanor and demonstrating the remarkable invulnerability of his super-strengthened skin as he walks through Earth’s streets.
In July 2025, Superman is scheduled to debut James Gunn’s fresh perspective for the DC Universe on the big screen. As the initial film in Gunn’s DCU, it will present a unique portrayal of the iconic DC character (portrayed by David Corenswet). In this rendition, Superman squares off against the mad genius Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult.
Why Did DC Studios Change Superman?
Without a doubt, one of the main questions on many fans’ minds after watching the new Superman trailer is: Why have DC Studios altered certain scenes in the film? It’s logical to assume that the creative team responsible for this upcoming comic book blockbuster would have valid reasons for making changes.
If a can is hurled at David Cowenswet’s Boy in Blue character, it might be reasonable because James Gunn and the “Superman” creative team decided to underscore the fact that Superman remains unbothered even when an object strikes his head.
Instead of recoiling or grimacing due to pain, Superman presses on, projecting an impression to the viewers that his mind is deeply engrossed with the challenges he faces in the movie and he appears disheartened by the criticism he has received from the public. As a result, even this kind of physical assault doesn’t deter him from his journey.
In my film review, I must confess that the alteration with the cape in this particular scene left me scratching my head a bit. To be fair, the discrepancy between the trailers’ versions of this sequence is so minute that many devoted viewers might watch both versions without detecting any variation (unless they are comparing them side-by-side).
Instead of hanging the cape straight on Superman’s back, positioning it over his shoulder creates an impression of grandeur, with an emphasis on uplift, which adds a touch of depth and complexity to the superhero’s iconic item compared to its previous flatter presentation.
Truthfully speaking, it’s quite likely that these modifications are just indications of the film being fine-tuned before its premiere. The initial Superman teaser was unveiled around six months ago, so nearly half a year of post-production adjustments have been made since then.
As the July 11 (or July 7 for some) release date of Superman approaches, it’s highly probable that further alterations from the initial preview will become noticeable over time.
