Last week, we finally got to see the complete trailer for James Gunn’s version of Superman. This preview offered an abundance of thrilling action sequences and a sneak peek into the narrative, highlighting David Corenswet’s character, Clark Kent, as he grapples with a world that resists his efforts to do what’s right for its own sake. Needless to say, the trailer is filled with stunning visuals showing Superman employing his powers to save (and occasionally fight) various individuals and creatures. A recently discovered clip shows Superman flying, and it appears quite impressive.
A user of X shared a video on the platform featuring an electronic billboard advertising the latest Superman trailer. The video captures Superman flying amidst clouds, a scene reminiscent of Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman movie, famous for its groundbreaking special effects that made viewers believe a man could fly, as indicated by the poster slogan “You’ll Believe a Man Can Fly.” The new marketing strategy for Gunn’s Superman appears to echo the spirit of the original films, emphasizing Superman’s powers and his inspirational role.
In Zack Snyder’s 2013 film “Man of Steel,” the marketing strategy was somewhat similar. The first teaser trailer showcased Superman, portrayed by Henry Cavill, flying off in the distance, leaving a sonic boom behind him as he took flight. However, a fresh video on X offers a different angle, with Gunn showing Superman flying from behind, providing viewers an up-close look at the character while in mid-flight. You can watch this new perspective below.
James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Has Plenty of Powers Left to Showcase
Initially, when James Gunn was appointed as the writer and director of Superman, there was a lot of excitement about how he would portray the character’s abilities. Fans were intrigued by his potential, and they got a sneak peek at what he’s capable of with a character like Superman in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, following the introduction of Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock. This almost indestructible superhero shares powers such as flight and super strength, and Gunn delivered plenty of thrilling action sequences for Adam Warlock, giving viewers a taste of what he might do with the famous DC superhero.
In the latest teaser for Superman, there’s plenty of action, but not all his powers are on display. Apart from flight and super strength, Superman boasts laser vision and freeze breath, suggesting that director Gunn might unveil these abilities in the movie at some point. Gunn is known for highlighting unique superpowers, as evident in characters such as Polka Dot Man and Ratcatcher, who appeared in the 2021 film, The Suicide Squad.
Looking forward to seeing what more advertising we’ll get for Superman as it gets closer to its release. If the initial trailer is any indication, the movie looks like a great mix of action and drama that stays faithful to Superman’s character. With some tough competition at the box office in July, like Jurassic World Rebirth coming out a week prior and Fantastic Four: First Steps releasing two weeks later, it’ll be crucial for the film to make the most of its marketing efforts.
