Superman And Fantastic Four Both Debut This Month And A Fan Figured Out The Perfect Barbenheimer-Esque Name

Fans of comic books often engage in lively discussions, debating everything from who would win in a one-on-one fight between characters to the boundaries of superpowers… However, amidst all the disagreements, it’s crucial not to overlook the common ground: an admiration for the medium and storytelling. Regardless of whether you’re a Marvel or DC supporter, everyone can agree that superheroes are fantastic – and it’s this shared sentiment that makes me appreciate the fan-created name celebrating the simultaneous release of James Gunn’s Superman and Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps this month.

Initially, it was Barbenheimer that gained attention, with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer hitting cinemas concurrently. Following that, Glicked emerged, spotlighting Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II and Jon M. Chu’s Wicked side by side on marquees last November. Now, in July 2025, Instagram user illustraluis has coined the term “SuperFantastic” to describe this summer as a season of blockbuster films.

What’s not to love about that?

As a movie critic, allow me to say that SuperFantastic isn’t quite like Barbenheimer or Glicked, despite the similarities in their shared universe. The magic of Barbenheimer and Glicked lay in their simultaneous release on the same day and their contrasting nature, catering to distinct audiences with each title. However, the close timing between Superman and Fantastic Four: First Steps, coupled with the long-standing rivalry between Marvel and DC, gives this new pairing a unique resonance that justifies the comparison.

Essentially, these popular two-part movies are designed to ignite anticipation for what’s coming to the cinema, and there’s certainly plenty to look forward to this month in terms of superhero films. The excitement kicks off on July 11 with the cinematic premiere of Superman, marking the start of the new DC Universe. This movie has been generating a lot of positive buzz, as evidenced by my recent four-and-a-half star review on TopMob that went live this afternoon. It offers a thrilling blend of fun, action, emotion, and deep themes, making it an experience that should resonate with audiences worldwide.

Two weeks from now, I’ll be eagerly anticipating the release of “Fantastic Four: First Steps” on July 25. Although I haven’t had the chance to see it yet or hear any reactions, I can’t help but feel excited about this long-awaited blockbuster. For years, fans like myself have been eagerly awaiting the day when Marvel’s First Family would grace the big screen, as the rights were held by 20th Century Fox and thus excluded from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, everything changed six years ago with the Disney-Fox merger, giving us hope that we might finally witness a fantastic adaptation of the Fantastic Four after numerous previous attempts fell short.

Of course, it’s clear that TopMob is closely monitoring all SuperFantastic-related matters. Therefore, don’t forget to frequently visit this site throughout July for news, updates, opinions, and insights regarding SuperFantastic.
