Supergirl’s Secret About Superman’s Parents

In the 2025 film about Superman, a surprising turn revolved around Krypton, the DC Universe’s rendition of Superman’s home planet. This unexpected plot twist served to emphasize the human aspect of the Man of Steel, despite going against many established stories about his world. However, the presence of Supergirl hints at there being more to the story than initially perceived.

The early parts of Superman show Clark Kent limping back to the Fortress of Solitude after being hurt. While his mechanical aides nurse him back to health, he listens to an unfinished message from his parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van. They express their deep affection for him and explain that they sent him to Earth so he could perform great deeds and uphold Krypton’s values.

Superman (2025) offers a unique twist on the hero’s origin story

Yet, the term “Krypton’s truth” assumes a more ominous connotation when Lex Luthor and The Engineer decipher the remaining parts of the recording. Here, Jor-El and Lara portray Earth’s inhabitants as being weak in intellect, spirit, and physique. They also advise their son to marry multiple wives and rule over Earth with no mercy.

As a movie enthusiast, I was taken aback when Luthor exposed the video that turned public opinion against Superman. People claimed it was genuine, even Mister Terrific asserted there was no chance it was fabricated. However, one detail hints at its falsity, disregarding The Engineer’s ability to create convincing deep-fakes. That clue is the existence of Supergirl.

Will Supergirl reveal Superman’s parents weren’t really weird or reinforce the idea of a fascist Krypton?

As a dedicated moviegoer diving into the expansive DC Universe, I can’t help but notice the tantalizing enigma that surrounds Kara Zor-El. Her backstory remains shrouded in mystery – neither her arrival on Earth nor her connection to Superman have been fully unveiled. This is crucial, as the particulars have fluctuated across various comic book timelines and screen adaptations.

In 1959’s Action Comics #252, Supergirl originated from a Kryptonian colony that survived its destruction. When their home faced danger, her scientist father dispatched her to Earth after learning about Superman. In contemporary adaptations, such as Smallville and Supergirl TV series, Kara lived on Krypton initially and was sent to Earth simultaneously with Kal-El (Superman) to watch over him. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, she arrived much later when he had grown up already.

In the event, it’s reasonable to assume that I, being Supergirl, should have been privy to my family’s plans. Given the circumstances, I would have certainly shared some insights with my cousin, even if he didn’t ask about our family background. Yet, such a scenario appears improbable, considering how deeply Superman valued the sole link he had to his birth parents.

As a movie buff, I’m excitedly anticipating that these questions surrounding the 2026 Supergirl film will finally find their answers. The star-studded cast includes David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham portraying Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze. It seems plausible that Superman’s parents may have been at odds with Kryptonian society, leading to Kara feeling reluctant to disclose the truth about her cousin’s transformation when she learned it herself. I find this explanation more credible than the notion that Supergirl would keep such a secret if it meant guiding Superman in constructing a space harem – an idea I can’t help but find rather implausible.
