With DC bringing classic comic book characters to the screen, DC Studios is hinting at what’s next for Milly Alcock’s character. Fans got a first look at the official Supergirl costume at CCXP before her own movie is released.
DC Film News recently shared a photo of Supergirl’s costume as it was showcased at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil. The website Omelete first posted the image, and DC Film News notes this is a fresh look at the suit worn by actress Milly Alcock. Reactions from fans have been mixed, with some excited and others less impressed. Despite some criticism of the design, many fans are praising the suit for closely resembling the classic comic book version of Supergirl.
A user named @JAMESBROWN56296 praised the costume as “so clean and comic accurate,” highlighting a common issue with bringing comic book outfits to life on screen. With superhero movies and shows now so popular, changes to character designs often spark debate. Sometimes these adaptations take big risks with the original look, and other times studios choose to create costumes using computer-generated imagery instead of practical designs.
It’s common for live-action versions of comic book characters to spark debate. Fans have reacted negatively to disappointing portrayals of heroes, villains, and everything in between before. For example, Jared Leto’s Joker appearance in The Suicide Squad received a lot of online criticism, with many people making fun of his tattoos and grillz, which they felt didn’t fit the character.
The Batsuit in Batman & Robin received a lot of criticism for having overly detailed chest plating. Some claimed the design was inspired by Roman armor, but the costume was still widely considered to be poorly made.
Supergirl Is On The Way
After first appearing as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, in the Superman movie, Milly Alcock will star in her own Supergirl film. DC Studios has revealed some details about the plot: the movie will begin with Kara celebrating her 21st birthday and embarking on a galactic journey with her dog, Krypto. During her travels, she’ll meet a young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll and experience a devastating event that sets her on a path of revenge. Meanwhile, actor Matthias Schoenaerts, who is expected to play the villain, is facing legal trouble and a possible prison sentence. DC Studios has not yet made a statement regarding Schoenaerts’ arrest.
This isn’t the first time Supergirl has appeared in live-action DC adaptations. Before the current DC Universe, The CW aired its own Supergirl series in 2015 as part of the “Arrowverse.” The Arrowverse was a separate world featuring DC characters like The Flash and Green Arrow, existing alongside the previous DC Extended Universe. It’s currently unknown if any characters will cross over into the new DC Universe.
DC Studios invites eager fans to look out for Supergirl in theaters starting on June 26, 2026.
