The new Supergirl movie, inspired by Tom King’s ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ comic, has the potential to be fantastic if it includes a particular story arc from the source material.
After the popular Superman movie last summer, the next film in James Gunn’s fresh take on the DC Universe is almost here. Supergirl will be flying into theaters in June.
So, Milly Alcock showed up for a quick scene in the new Superman movie, and it looks like she was just grabbing her dog, Krypto. Honestly, Krypto seems pretty important to how the whole story kicks off, so that little scene might be bigger than it looks!
If the movie closely follows the comic book’s story, we can expect a truly amazing scene in Supergirl – one that will be unlike anything audiences have seen in a superhero film before. Be warned: the following details might reveal plot points!
Supergirl could feature giant alien dinosaurs

Although initial trailers hinted that the new Supergirl movie would closely follow the ‘World of Tomorrow’ storyline, producer James Gunn has clarified it won’t be a strict adaptation. He told Variety the film is more of a space fantasy, similar in tone to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ and is inspired by the Tom King comic book. While it borrows key elements from the source material, it doesn’t follow the story beat-for-beat.
Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, continues to work with Ruthye Marye Knoll to track down Krem of the Yellow Hills. However, it’s currently unknown whether the upcoming movie will follow the storyline from the fifth chapter of the graphic novel, called ‘The Lake, the Trees, and the Monsters.’
We’re really excited about this part of the story because it’s full of action! Supergirl finds herself stranded on a terrifying planet filled with monsters, and her chances of making it out alive are slim.
Introducing the horrors of Barenton

They arrive there because of a magical sphere called the ‘Mordru Globe’ that Krem used. This sphere has the power to send incredibly powerful beings across vast distances, often far from where they meant to go.
Barenton is a planet created as a trap for Superman. It’s filled with dangerous monsters and has a green sun that weakens his abilities.
When the sun comes up, Supergirl loses her powers, leaving her and her partner stranded on Barenton for ten hours until sunset, when her abilities return.
The chapter begins with Kara saving Ruthye from being crushed by a massive creature – one so huge it’s comparable to Godzilla or King Kong.
We definitely saw Superman battle a giant monster in last summer’s film, but the setting of Metropolis made it feel similar to many other superhero vs. monster movies we’ve seen lately.

I’m really loving the “Woman of Tomorrow” comics, especially the settings! They take place on this really harsh, beautiful planet – the artist, Bilquis Evely, and colorist Matheus Lopes use these amazing yellows, oranges, and greens that just pop off the page. Honestly, it looks like it would translate perfectly to a movie or TV show – it’s visually stunning!
The monsters have a distinctly ancient look, resembling creatures like Pterodactyls, Velociraptors, and even a T-Rex. This sets up a battle where Supergirl is essentially facing off against dinosaurs.
I was really hooked by how Ruthye got her moment to shine when Kara was sidelined by the sun! It was great to see her step up. But honestly, the way the chapter ended? Absolutely incredible! The final scene was just spectacular – a perfect finish.
This story is perfect for a movie, and really needs to be seen on the big screen. Hopefully, Supergirl’s travels will bring her to Barenton this summer.
Supergirl will be released on June 26, 2026. If you’re looking for more DC news, you can find out which villain fans want to see in The Batman Part 2, get all the details on the upcoming Clayface movie, and check out our ranking of the best Batman films.
