The trailer for the new Supergirl movie suggests that viewers who love dogs might find it a bit upsetting.
The new Supergirl movie, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, will arrive in U.S. theaters next June. Craig Gillespie is directing, and Milly Alcock will return as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, following her brief appearance in James Gunn’s 2025 film, Superman.
The first trailer for the Supergirl movie is out, and it suggests things might not go well for Krypto in the story.
What does the Supergirl trailer show us about Krypto?
The Supergirl trailer concludes with a touching scene: Kara, visibly upset and crying, gently strokes the head of Krypto, who appears to be hurt.
The movie is based on the comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In the comics, Krypto, Supergirl’s dog, is seriously injured by an arrow. While he does survive, the scene is upsetting. If you’re a dog lover and don’t like seeing animals hurt, you might want to be prepared before watching the movie, as it appears to follow this storyline closely.
Interestingly, Supergirl appears open to using more force with Krypto, something the new Superman movie avoided. A scene showing a harsh reaction to Krypto from Superman – specifically, Ultraman hitting him – was removed after test audiences didn’t like it.
Supergirl will be released in United States theaters on June 26, 2026.
