Bandai Namco recently revealed additional information about “Super Robot Wars Y” during a special livestream focusing on the title. Team members from the company elaborated on the game’s backstory and world settings, while also demonstrating a test version that will be available at global gaming events.
In the initial part of the stream, Kota Toma, the game’s producer, and Masahiro Nagura, the scenario writer, engaged in a pre-recorded discussion about the world settings for SRWY. To reassure longtime fans that this game would follow the same format as previous SRW releases, they decided to use the letter ‘Y’. With fewer letters remaining (previously used letters include T, X, V, Z, A, R, D, J, W, K, L, and F), they chose ‘Y’ because it can also symbolize a two-way branch or a three-way intersection. This symbolism ties into the storyline, as humanity faces two difficult decisions. The team also mentioned that while SRW 30 had a militaristic setting, SRW Y will instead focus on post-war civilian lifestyles.
The team additionally unveiled the authentic figures from SRW Y that you’ll encounter. Characters like Cross and Forte Tsukinowa serve as protectors for the entire A.Advent vessel, which houses the owner Echika and a vast civilian community residing within. Furthermore, they presented three more original characters newly created:
- Anina Selvania (voiced by Rina Sato) – Echika Y. Franburnett’s private tutor who teaches her the essentials of governance
- Norvey Dickens (voiced by Takashi Matsuyama) – Captain of the ship A.Advent who previously served in the military
- Mina Naraib (voiced by Karin Nanao) – Operator on the ship A.Advent who also previously worked under Norvey in the military

In the upcoming part, Kota Toma demonstrated an interactive playthrough of SRW Y’s test version, emphasizing the upgraded user interface. This segment also unveiled gameplay adjustments not previously exhibited, including a compact attack list for units on the screen, enabling players to clearly see the attack ranges within the game maps. Moreover, warship captains have been granted unique boost commands for specific units (for example, Majestic Prince’s Suzukaze can elevate a unit’s morale), replacing EX-Orders from previous installments.
Additionally, Toma assured that the demo would be accessible at live events taking place not just within Japan, but internationally as well. The initial verified event is an early playtest gathering focused specifically on the game, set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from June 21st through 22nd.
Worldwide release date for Super Robot Wars Y has been set for August 28. It can be played on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, or PC through Steam.
