Okay, so I’m hearing a lot of gamers are kinda freaked out about the rumored new Switch – the Switch 2. Apparently, Nintendo might be bundling *Super Mario Galaxy* 1 & 2 with it, which sounds awesome, right? But people are worried the game might actually *look worse* than the original versions on the Wii! It’s wild to think a new console could make an older game look better, but that’s the buzz right now.
Both Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel are considered some of Nintendo’s best 3D platforming games. The original Super Mario Galaxy came out on the Wii in 2007, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 followed in 2008, with both games receiving excellent reviews. More recently, Super Mario Galaxy was brought back as part of the 3D All-Stars collection on the Switch, alongside other classic Mario titles like Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine.
In a presentation on September 12th, Nintendo announced a $70 package including both Super Mario Galaxy games for the upcoming Switch 2 console. This reveal coincided with the announcement of a new Super Mario Galaxy movie. However, some viewers have expressed worries about the visual quality of the game ports based on the trailer footage.

Players spot texture downgrades in new Mario Galaxy footage
A Reddit user named RedditRedditReddit64 posted a comparison on the r/Mario subreddit showing Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii next to Super Mario Galaxy from the 3D All-Stars collection, and clips from the new Switch 2 trailer. The comparison suggests that the newer versions have lower-quality textures – things like metal and dirt appear flatter and less detailed.
Players have pointed out that the textures for the new ports are inconsistent. Some look noticeably more detailed and improved, while others appear faded and lacking quality. They hope these are just temporary, unfinished textures that will be fixed before the game’s release, but they aren’t entirely confident that will happen.
Many people shared similar worries, but some thought the lower video quality might just be due to compression. Others remained optimistic, noting that Nintendo has consistently delivered games with great graphics, such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza, so this footage might not be the final version.
Nintendo hasn’t yet confirmed if the graphics shown in the September presentation are exactly how the final game will look.
