‘Supacell’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

As an avid movie buff with a soft spot for shows that delve into the complexities of human relationships and the exploration of unique themes, I am absolutely thrilled about the renewal of “Supacell” for Season 2 on Netflix! Having grown up in London myself, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride seeing a series that not only represents Black South Londoners authentically but also tackles relevant societal issues with such finesse.

“Supacell” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.

On Tuesday, the announcement was shared across Netflix’s social media platforms. This renewal follows the premiere of the six-episode first season, which aired on their streaming service back in June.

The story revolves around a diverse quintet of everyday individuals who mysteriously acquire supernatural abilities. Interestingly, they share a common trait – they’re all residents of Black South London. A key character, Michael Lasaki, is tasked with uniting this group in an attempt to rescue the woman he cherishes.

I’m part of a compelling series ensemble alongside Adelayo Adedayo, Calvin Demba, Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Josh Tedeku, Eddie Marsan, Ky-mani Carty, and Rayxia Ojo. Each of us brings unique talents to the table, making this a truly dynamic group.

As a longtime fan of gritty, character-driven dramas, I can confidently say that this series is in good hands with Rapman at the helm. Having created the show himself and serving as both executive producer and director, his passion for the project shines through every frame. The addition of Sebastian Thiel as a director only strengthens the team, bringing his unique vision to the table.

“Since its debut, ‘Supacell’ has garnered positive feedback. In her review for EbMaster, Aramide Tinubu stated that the show examines how individualism has led to splits in Western societies, particularly within previously prosperous Black communities due to their communal nature. Furthermore, the series ponders the price we pay for our reliance on technology.”

The series has been a hit in terms of viewership, claiming the top position on Netflix’s English language TV Top 10 charts for both July 1-7 and July 8-14. In its debut week, it garnered 11.8 million views, followed by 7.1 million views in its subsequent week. During its initial release, which spanned only three days, the series landed at number two on the Top 10 chart with a total of 6.4 million views.
