Suns’ NBA 2K25 ratings that are 100% wrong

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of NBA 2K under my belt, I can confidently say that the ratings for this year’s game have left me scratching my head.

The newly released NBA 2K25 video game is out, allowing players to enhance their modern gaming systems and join their preferred NBA athletes on the court. For enthusiasts of the Phoenix Suns, this game promises excitement as their squad boasts several notable figures such as Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Let’s scrutinize the ratings for some of these Suns’ standouts in NBA 2K25 and decide who deserves a higher or lower rating.

Kevin Durant should be higher than a 94, particularly offensively

Kevin Durant is widely recognized as one of the top players globally, and he hasn’t shown any signs of changing that status recently. To even suggest that Durant might not deserve a rating of 95 or higher in this year’s video game is absurd and insulting. Such an idea simply doesn’t align with reality.

On the NBA court, Durant is simply unstoppable. His shooting skills are top-notch, whether it’s from long range or close up. He’s also an exceptional ball handler in tight situations, showing incredible ingenuity. Moreover, he can swiftly change direction or burst past his main defender with ease. At the rim, he’s a formidable finisher who uses his body skillfully to navigate around defenders trying to block his shots.

As a fan, I’d express it like this: Standing tall at any position from one to five, my admiration for him stems from his impressive height, strength, and athleticism that he uses defensively. While he may not excel in close combat with centers near the block, he more than compensates by leveraging his height and expansive wingspan. He has a knack for retreating smartly without losing control of the game’s flow, always positioning himself strategically to intercept passes or disrupt shots when opponents make their moves towards shooting attempts.

In NBA 2K25, Durant is highly rated, but I believe he should be given a much higher rank. His skill level warrants a rating far above the current 94; after all, he’s among the top five players globally, and that talent deserves recognition.

It’s puzzling why the Suns’ star player was ranked quite low compared to his actual skill level. However, since we can’t definitively uncover the real explanation now, it’s clear that Durant has been among the top global players for over a decade and a half.

Over extended periods when a player consistently shines as a superstar, developers may experience a phenomenon known as “superstar burnout”. This is similar to the voter fatigue experienced by those who select Most Valuable Player (MVP), and it’s possible that this is the primary reason LeBron James hasn’t received more MVP awards. In the same vein, developers might find it repetitive to assign top ratings to the same group of players in a game.

At this stage, Durant had shone as a star for over a decade, and it appears that this evaluation is less about acknowledging his skills and more about symbolizing the transition of leadership to the upcoming generation.

Devin Booker should be closer to 95 than his current 92

Suns’ NBA 2K25 ratings that are 100% wrong

In a different phrase, the rating for NBA 2K25 may not be as egregiously wrong as Durant’s 94, but it’s still questionable. Devin Booker is a top-tier guard with an uncanny ability to score at will, demonstrated by his impressive 70-point game. He’s also known for being a quick scoring threat, much like a microwave heating food rapidly. When Booker is on fire, there are no defenders in the world who can stop him effectively.

He’s an exceptional basketball player who shines during games, with skills that truly stand out on the court. His high rating is well-deserved, despite some perceptions that Booker may not be a versatile player overall. However, his incredible prowess in key areas more than compensates for any perceived weaknesses. Additionally, contrary to popular belief, he’s not as poor a defender and playmaker as his reputation might suggest.

Bradley Beal is slightly overrated at 85

Bradley Beal isn’t a poor performer by any stretch, but he’s clearly not at his best anymore, and there’s an indication that the game developers might be evaluating him more based on his former reputation rather than his current performance in terms of output.

Occasionally, Beal may heat up and rack up points quickly, and he can still deliver a spectacular play or scoring spree once in a while. However, what he lacks consistently is reliability. To put it simply, Beal’s performance isn’t always consistent, which is the aspect that Suns fans find most exasperating about him.

As a gamer, it feels like the rating for this player is more about nostalgia for his old days with the Wizards, rather than an objective assessment of his current skills. The game creators should confront this issue and decide if they want their ratings to reflect the realities of today’s league, showcasing the abilities of players in the present, or if they prefer to base their ratings on the fun times they had watching a player perform in the past.

It appears they favored Beal when evaluating the ladder, which conflicts with their public statements about rating other players. Given his present play and performance, a rating of 82 to 84 seems fitting for the ex-Wizards guard. However, while Suns fans might hope otherwise, Beal’s current rating isn’t completely correct.
