This year, Cinespia returns for its 24th season at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery, featuring an outdoor movie series that pays homage to the late filmmaker David Lynch, screening films at his burial site.
Memorial Day weekend marks the commencement of summer, featuring two L.A.-themed movies: “The Big Lebowski,” directed by the Coen Brothers, will be shown on Saturday, May 24th. In contrast, a special 30th anniversary screening of Amy Heckerling’s “Clueless” is scheduled for Sunday, May 25th.
On Saturday, May 31, Cinespia will screen “Blue Velvet,” a 1986 classic directed by David Lynch and featuring Isabella Rossellini, Kyle MacLachlan, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern. Notably, the visionary filmmaker behind films such as “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive,” and television series like “Twin Peaks,” passed away on January 15 at the age of 78.
This coming Saturday, May 31, Cinespia will showcase David Lynch’s 1986 film masterpiece, “Blue Velvet.” Starring Isabella Rossellini, Kyle MacLachlan, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern, this dark, surrealistic production is one of many groundbreaking works from the late director. Known for his influential contributions to American cinema with films like “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive,” as well as television with “Twin Peaks,” Lynch passed away on January 15 at the age of 78.
Cinespia’s origins have always been a heartfelt ode to Los Angeles and the films that defined us, as stated by founder John Wyatt. This season, we are privileged to kick off with two indelible depictions of our city, and a salute to the legendary David Lynch,” says Cinespia’s founder.
Since 2002, Cinespia has been projecting films at the well-known Los Angeles landmark, initially showing “Strangers on a Train” to a few hundred viewers. Now, this open-air movie event organized by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video draws as many as 4,000 cinema enthusiasts onto the renowned Fairbanks Lawn every session.
Each viewing comes complete with a resident DJ who sets the mood both prior to and post-screening, in addition to a complimentary photo booth designed around the theme of the evening’s movie showcase. For your entertainment, our beer and wine bar, as well as concession stands, will be available for guests to savor during their film experience.
