Summer House Recap: Pirate’s Booty

Throughout the seasons, it’s been playful banter between Jesse Solomon and West Wilson that they have no personal space boundaries. They chat while one is relieving themselves, share showers, and never seem to run out of bro-time. However, this episode suggests a deeper connection. The hints begin from the start when Jesse gives West a friendly cheek kiss upon picking him up, followed by Jesse doing a handstand at home with West holding his legs for a photo, nearly causing their faces to touch. At the gym, West straddles Jesse while “spotting” him, joking about not being able to rise to the occasion. To top it off, after returning from the bar drunk, they push their beds together and West jokes that the weekend is about them renewing their vows and exploring what happens next. While I can’t spell out the explicit details, let’s just say it’s clear there’s more than friendship brewing between these two.

It appears that their relationship might not be as genuine as it seems. One might wonder if they’re only pretending to be in love for personal gain or favor, but it’s more likely that Jesse is the root of their questionable behavior. For instance, observe how he interacts with Ciara; his flirtatiousness towards her mirrors his behavior with other women, such as when he buried Gabby’s head in his shirt. However, he seems to be most forward with Ciara because they appear to be the closest. Before the pirate party, Jesse was on a float with Ciara, and she put her leg on his, and he joked about being turned on by the situation. Later, he rolled over and got very close to her, which could have been a joke due to him getting out of the pool and possibly wetting her, but it feels reminiscent of the sitcom “Too Close for Comfort.” (If you recognize that reference, you are now eligible for Social Security while it’s still around.)

Jesse shouldn’t engage in this activity for two main reasons. Firstly, West has shared with Jesse that he’s not having much luck getting along with Ciara within the house. West mentions that his phone is “always interesting,” but he’s focusing on building a connection with Ciara in the house this summer, which is quite heartwarming. While Jesse deserves praise for attempting to reconcile their friendship, it might not be wise to pursue a full-blown flirtation, considering what Ciara expresses in her own words: “Jesse and I definitely flirt, but there’s nothing serious behind it. If the situation ever arose, I think Jesse would likely seize the opportunity.

The issue at hand revolves around Jesse’s behavior. He enjoys flirting with Amanda on social media, which seems harmless given that she’s married and not interested. However, it’s clear that he finds Ciara attractive too, and if the two are still dating (which I hope isn’t the case), Lexi might feel upset when she returns to see Jesse flirting with another woman while she was away. This situation is awkward for everyone involved.

Talking about unforgettable events, let me share my take on Carl’s party – a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed extravaganza that has undeniably set a new standard for parties in Summer House. He managed to bring the entire set of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” right into his backyard! There’s a small island, adorned with palm trees, shark fins, and a raft that even Paige considers cozy enough to sleep on. I initially thought it might be too kitschy, but just like how Imrul transforms a club the moment he steps in, Carl has truly made this theme come alive without a hint of cheese!

Regarding Lil, the woman Carl invited to the party and has been talking to, it’s uncertain how things will unfold between them. You might remember their initial encounter; Amanda – who won the best costume of the night with her impressive parrot portrayal – shared with the other ladies that Carl attended a soccer game on his own and met Lil’s parents. Somehow they connected on social media, and Lil started messaging Carl. Frankly, if my parents suggested to me, “We met a man who is fantastic. You should date him. He was sitting alone at a soccer game,” I would politely decline and advise them to reconsider their matchmaking strategy.

It appears that Carl is getting along well with Lil at the party, as she praises his eyeliner and mentions he resembles a lemur, which is favorable since she admires lemurs. However, things start to escalate when Jesse enters the scene. Jesse inquires about what Lil does, and she responds that she’s both a dancer and yoga instructor. Carl expresses his desire for a date with her, followed by proposing they do hot yoga together. Kudos to you, Carl, for being subtle yet clear about your romantic intentions. However, it seems that Lil might not be interested in the same way. Jesse directly asks, “Are you staying over?” Then Lil questions, “Am I staying over?” To which Carl replies, “You could stay over.” In other words, consider this a date and arrange for hot yoga in the morning, buddy. You’ll have Jesse to thank later on.

It’s just as uncomfortable to observe the ongoing conflict between Kyle and Craig, who seem to be in disagreement about Craig’s alleged alcohol investment. The details are hazy due to a lot of discussion about discussing and when to discuss, what to wear while discussing, and so on. This is reminiscent of the lyrics from Talk Talk’s song “Talk Talk,” where it seems all they do is talk, talk, talk. The substance of their discussions remains unclear, but for now, Kyle appears to have taken the lead in the conversation about the conflict. He claims he reached out to Craig before the weekend to try and resolve the issue, only for Craig to respond but not engage in a face-to-face conversation. It was wise of Kyle to address it early on, particularly after their subdued (meaning sober) birthday party for Amanda on Friday night. Craig has expressed his desire to discuss things the next day, as he isn’t ready yet, and Kyle seems to be dealing with his anger by wandering around in the backyard instead of getting intoxicated.

During dinner, Kyle intentionally let go of it as Amanda requested, understanding fully the sequence of events that would unfold: Craig would wait until the following day’s themed party to discuss their issues while heavily intoxicated and in costume. Kyle felt this was far from a proper setting for addressing business matters. Now that he’s had time to cool down, Kyle acknowledges his priorities have shifted towards preserving their friendship, primarily because he wants things between Paige and Amanda to remain harmonious.

Craig doesn’t feel the need to discuss this matter with Kyle. However, regardless of his feelings towards Kyle, it’s important for him to maintain peace in their shared social circle, especially since Paige and Amanda are close friends. Paige expressed her frustration with Craig, not only due to issues within their relationship but also because she feels he isn’t handling the situation with Kyle appropriately. Furthermore, she’s upset that Craig seems oblivious to her anger or the reasons behind it.

The real insight about these CEOs, innovators, and business leaders surfaces when Paige and Amanda discuss them. Where does their conversation take place? It happens in a bed, implying that Paige is at her best and speaking honestly. Both women concur that Kyle and Craig are individuals who must be proven right, but moreover, they require the other person to acknowledge their correctness before moving forward. Consequently, this discussion is bound to end poorly, and I, for one, am eagerly anticipating its unfolding in the upcoming episode.

In the episode, Paige fails to prepare Craig for a fruitful discussion as they both sit in an inflatable raft discussing their relationship issues. This conversation is a continuation from last week’s chat, leaving a bitter taste in Paige’s mouth – not due to kangaroo kebabs. Craig yearns to maintain his significance in Paige’s life given her increasing career commitments, yet he confesses that she hasn’t demonstrated this prioritization thus far, which leaves him apprehensive about feeling neglected in the future. We all bear some responsibility for our partner’s feelings, but if we extend that responsibility to possible emotions, then we would never cease arguing and instead remain engrossed in disputes, preventing us from appreciating our relationship as it stands.

Page has made it clear that her life and career have evolved significantly since their relationship began. Her values and lifestyle have shifted, and she should not feel compelled to apologize for these changes. If Craig is excessively concerned about potential feelings of jealousy regarding her success, then he isn’t truly fostering her growth, making it understandable why they might part ways over this matter. In order to maintain a partnership, they must accommodate each other amidst their busy agendas; however, if Craig prioritizes his perceived feelings over Page’s accomplishments, then he is not genuinely supporting her journey.

Instead of rowing a raft through the gathering, Jesse instructed West to head towards the kitchen and search for a bottle opener. West rummaged through the cabinets, causing a clatter as he moved various utensils like forks, spatulas, slot spoons, and an odd juicer around. With a grin on his face, Jesse, dressed as Captain Jason from Below Deck Down Under, watched. “Man, I can’t seem to find it,” West complained.

In simpler terms, Jesse said to West, who was standing beside him, “I didn’t need you here for a bottle opener,” implying that there was another reason for his presence. He then moved towards the counter, gently nudging West backwards until West’s backside touched it. West, a bit uneasy, giggled. Jesse then complimented West by saying, “You look really good as a pirate.” His gaze remained fixed on West, who was also looking at him intently. They seemed lost in their own desires, with the energy passing between them like a current. Jesse then gently lifted West’s chin with his index finger and leaned in to kiss him. The kiss lasted longer than usual. As they leaned against the counter, both of them felt a certain rigidity in their pants. Eventually, Jesse ended the kiss, looked back at West, paused, and said, “Wow. Don’t shave off that mustache.
