Warning! Spoilers ahead for Suits LA episode 9, “Bat Signal.”
In episode 9 of Suits LA, it was unveiled that Harvey Specter and Donna have a son, although the series does not disclose his name yet. However, Suits has already laid out an optimal choice for his name. Concluding Gabriel Macht’s three-episode stint in the spinoff, “Bat Signal” brings him and Ted Black back to New York City with the aim of imprisoning Pellegrini permanently. Interestingly, even though there are no storyline connections between Suits LA and the original series, the creator of Suits, Aaron Korsh, has cleverly linked the new main character in Los Angeles with the former top-notch closer in New York to expand and fortify the emerging universe.
The spin-off series, “Suits LA”, provides glimpses into the past friendship between Ted and Harvey through flashbacks. Interestingly, the original Suits series never hinted at Stephen Amell’s character, but these two men were reportedly very close, with Harvey still standing by his side today. Amell’s brief appearance in the spin-off is intended to boost Ted and the new venture, but given his popularity, it also promises significant revelations about Harvey’s life in Seattle with his wife, Donna Paulsen. This update has been eagerly anticipated since Suits season 9 concluded.
Suits LA Episode 9 Reveals Harvey & Donna Have A Son
The Specters Are Doing Well
In an ideal scenario, every member of Harvey’s team from Seattle would join the cast of Suits LA, with Mike Ross, Rachel Zane, and Donna included. However, this isn’t going to happen in the spinoff – at least not yet. Instead, Harvey’s presence is carefully designed to show that Ted endorses Ted. Nevertheless, creator Aaron Korsh recognizes the significance of giving fans fresh insights about their cherished legacy characters. In episode 9 of Suits LA, it indeed provides when it discloses that Harvey and Donna have a son together.
In a departure from its usual approach of introducing fresh details about its established characters, the spinoff of NBC has been quite traditional regarding Ted’s case against Pellegrini. Harvey, in particular, remains tight-lipped about personal matters, never revealing much beyond his professional life. However, in “Bat Signal,” we see two significant revelations from him. Firstly, his brother, Marcus, passed away a few years ago due to cancer. Secondly, though he’s not explicit, it seems Harvey is now raising a son with his wife. Despite Ted’s persistent inquiries, Harvey remains elusive about his personal life details.
Harvey & Donna’s Son’s Best Name Option Is Gordon Specter
Suits LA Doesn’t Confirm The Name Of Harvey & Donna’s Son
In episode 9 of Suits LA, rather than featuring a live appearance by Harvey, they paid tribute to his family only through mentions. Interestingly, though, the “Bat Signal” episode gave significant attention to the Specters’ son, with Harvey consistently declining to disclose his name when Ted inquired about it repeatedly. Towards the end of the storyline, Macht’s character humorously suggested that he named his child after his Los Angeles counterpart and longtime friend, but Ted didn’t believe him. Despite this, Harvey continued to joke about the matter, implying that he had named the kid after Kevin.
In the end, Suits LA concludes Harvey’s storyline without disclosing the name of his child. Nonetheless, the initial Suits series has strongly hinted at the possibility that Harvey named his son Gordon, after his deceased father. The USA Network show delved into Harvey’s complex family background by focusing on his strong relationship with his dad – a man who was always optimistic and played jazz music. Lending support to this theory is the fact that Gordon Sr. often referred to Harvey as “my boy,” which happens to be the name Donna’s son is recorded under in her father’s phone.
Will Suits LA Ever Feature Harvey With His Son & Donna?
Suits LA Should Feature The Whole Specter Family
Currently, only Rick Hoffman’s character Louis Litt from the original cast of Suits appears as a cameo in Suits LA. The exact timing and purpose of his appearance are uncertain, but it would undoubtedly be delightful for fans of the legal series to see any familiar faces. At present, NBC has not yet confirmed whether Suits LA will return for its second season. If it does, the show would need a convincing reason to bring the entire Specter family to LA.
As a film enthusiast, I firmly believe that a cameo should serve a purpose beyond mere appearances. Reviving characters like Macht and Rafferty without a compelling narrative reason would be missing an opportunity. Instead, there ought to be a new crisis at Ted or Stuart’s law firm that calls not only for Harvey’s expertise, but also Donna’s. Though the later seasons of Suits may not have fully utilized her potential, Donna was undeniably one of the most competent figures at Pearson Hardman. It would be a delight to see her skills in action once more, especially in the context of Suits LA.
