Studiocanal Opens New York Office, Promotes Anne Chérel to Lead U.S. Growth

As a passionate film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the global cinema landscape, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Studiocanal‘s expansion into the U.S. market and Anne Chérel’s well-deserved promotion to chief commercial officer. Throughout my years of immersing myself in the world of films, I have come across countless gems from this esteemed French studio – from “Paddington” and “Shaun the Sheep” franchises to critically acclaimed titles like “Autumn” and “The Black Jaguar.”

Studiocanal, a French production company, has broadened its reach in the United States by establishing its initial American office in New York City.

Anne Chérel, who used to hold the position of executive vice president for global sales and distribution, has been given a new role as chief commercial officer. She will now work from a new office, where her responsibilities include overseeing global distribution and helping expand Studiocanal in the US market.

The company, behind the hit “Paddington” and “Shaun the Sheep” franchises, already has a presence in the U.S. thanks to an office in LA led by Shana Eddy Grouf, as well as a stake in Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman’s U.S.-based The Picture Company. In a statement it said it wanted to strengthen its presence by establishing a business in New York that would allow it to “further consolidate” its commercial foothold in North America working closely with its U.S. distribution partners, with the aim of “combining distribution and global sales with each of its projects.”

“Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal, expressed her joy over Anne Cherel’s promotion as the new chief commercial officer. Over the course of many years, Anne has been a pivotal figure in our company, expertly steering our global commercial strategy with both grace and tenacity. Her extensive market knowledge is unmatched, and her exceptional management skills have resulted in an exceptional sales team filled with gifted and passionate professionals. I wholeheartedly congratulate Anne on her new role and wish her great success as we expand Studiocanal’s distribution reach in the United States.”

Cherel played a key role in managing the global release of films such as “Autumn and The Black Jaguar” by Gilles de Maistre, “Back To Black” by Sam Taylor-Johnson, “Wicked Little Letters” by Thea Sharrock, and “Beating Hearts” by Gilles Lellouche. These movies have or will soon be available in markets worldwide. Notable upcoming series, including “Families Like Ours” by Thomas Vinterberg and “Playing Nice” by Kate Hewitt, have secured various distribution deals across the globe.

As a long-time film enthusiast and industry insider, I’ve kept my eyes peeled for exciting new releases from various studios. Amongst the upcoming titles that have caught my attention recently are Studiocanal’s lineup. Their slate includes “Paddington in Peru,” which, having grown up with the beloved Peruvian bear, I can’t wait to see how he fares on a new adventure, now being distributed in the U.S. by Sony Pictures.
