As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I find myself once again grappling with the unpredictable nature of the video game industry. The recent closure of Humble Games has left a sour taste in my mouth, not only because it means one less publisher supporting indie developers but also due to its impact on games I’ve grown fond of like Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus and Coral Island.
The creators of Squid Shock, known for producing Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, have announced potential delays in updating the console versions because their publisher, Humble Games, unexpectedly shut down earlier this month.
The studio had depended on Humble for post-launch assistance, but must now explore alternative solutions. According to Squid Shock’s announcement, “We find ourselves in a challenging predicament with regards to updating the console versions. Support for both porting and quality assurance testing was incorporated into our agreement with Humble.”
A statement on console ports and future updates.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m excitedly working on multiple paths to bring you updates for the console versions, but I must warn you, it might take some time before these changes are implemented. Rest assured, my development team is tirelessly working on updating the PC version right now and we promise that these updates will eventually make their way to your console platforms.
1) In recent times, certain studios whose games were distributed by Humble have found themselves in analogous predicaments. Last week, Stairway Games, the creators of Coral Island, addressed console supporters of their game due to their dissatisfaction with the absence of updates about a Switch version. Owing to Humble Games’ closure, the developer expressed uncertainty over Coral Island’s future on consoles and offered Switch backers an alternative option to switch to a Steam edition instead.
Last week, Humble Games unexpectedly shut down, leaving approximately 36 employees jobless. Contrary to Humble’s statement of “restructuring,” those affected felt otherwise, believing that Ziff Davis was attempting to preserve its public image. An anonymous source, formerly an employee, revealed that both Ziff Davis and Humble would no longer be involved in releasing new games.
