Three well-known Twitch personalities were out in public during their extended ‘sisathon’ streaming event, when a man unexpectedly approached them. At one point, he threatened them by saying “I’m going to kill you right now,” having traced their location through the live broadcast and previously attempting to get Emiru’s phone number, which she declined.
On the very same evening, another live streamer, Amouranth, disclosed that her residence was burglarized by armed robbers. They threatened her with a firearm, struck her with it, and demanded that she hand over cryptocurrency from her possession.
Notable personalities within the streaming industry have voiced their worries and encouraged stricter security protocols.
In a more protective society, content creators, particularly women, should receive enhanced security measures. The current system is unacceptable, as it only responds when harm has already occurred.
It’s crucial that the police and security take a proactive approach in protecting women who are being stalked. The current law, which allows no action until an incident occurs, is unacceptable and potentially dangerous.
