The conclusion of the Stranger Things saga on Netflix is drawing near, as the final season will see the characters from Hawkins facing off against the terrors of the Upside Down. In other words, the end is approaching, but not quite yet. As previously announced, Season 5 is set to drop before the conclusion of the 2025 television schedule, though it will be cutting it close. The premiere dates – there may be more than one – could potentially conflict with holiday plans. However, I’m simply thrilled that for once, I’ll have the chance to watch the new season using my Netflix subscription at a reasonable hour.
Netflix’s TUDUM event showcased “Stranger Things” during its two-hour program, and provided an eagerness-inducing announcement that fans have eagerly anticipated since 2022 – a release date! Excitingly, the streaming service has confirmed that, similar to Season 4, the remaining episodes will be divided into distinct segments. However, unlike Season 4, there will be three separate releases instead of two. To help you mark your calendars for these thrilling journeys back to the Upside Down, here are the dates you’ll want to remember on the Rightside Up:
[Note: The “Rightside Up” is a term used in the show Stranger Things]
- Volume 1: November 26
- Volume 2: Christmas
- The Finale: New Year’s Eve
As a diehard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder the upcoming discussions among fellow film lovers about the division of this anticipated series into separate volumes. Will they find the split beneficial? Is the timing impeccable or could it be better? With Volume 1 releasing on November 26, just a day before Thanksgiving, one might question whether encountering the eerie creatures of the Upside Down would stimulate an appetite for turkey and cranberry sauce. For those who celebrate Christmas, Volume 2 may fail to bring much joy and cheer. And as for The Finale… if it doesn’t live up to the hype, it might not set the tone for a memorable 2026!
I appreciate it when Netflix divides seasons into several parts, but what truly excited me about the recent news wasn’t just the part splits. Instead, it was learning that all volumes and the finale would be released on those dates at 5 p.m. Pacific Time, which for my time zone means 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
As a film enthusiast who has often found myself in a predicament of either burning the midnight oil or rising before dawn to catch the latest releases, or else running the risk of spoilers by waiting for a reasonable hour on release day, I can’t help but express my gratitude for the option to begin streaming in the early evening rather than at 3 a.m. ET. Bring it on, Vecna, for I shall face your villainy with a refreshed mind and spirit!
To put it simply, Netflix has been venturing into live broadcasts, with mixed results that viewers who attempted to watch the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson match can attest to. Similarly, Disney+ has started airing fresh episodes of some of its most popular shows during the afternoon Pacific Time/evening Eastern Time, an experience I found quite enjoyable when it came to series like Ahsoka and Daredevil: Born Again.
It’s unclear if the altered release schedule for “Stranger Things” signals broader changes at Netflix, but one thing is certain – I’m definitely more pumped up for Season 5! The teaser trailer certainly adds to my anticipation. Here it is:

Although we don’t have enough fresh material yet to make many conclusions about the season other than it will be frightening, there’s one reunion to anticipate: Joyce with her axe! Could Steve and his baseball bat also join in? Given that Netflix is holding true to their word by releasing Volume 1 towards the end of November, I’ll keep a hopeful outlook for the time being.
Instead of having such a lengthy wait, it provides an opportunity for me, being a dedicated fan of the series, to revisit the initial four seasons of “Stranger Things.” With a gap of three years, recalling the intricate details of the complex Season 4 can be quite challenging.
