Stranger Things Season 5 had a bigger budget than Avengers: Endgame

The final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things is coming soon, and it’s rumored to have cost more to make than the blockbuster movie Avengers: Endgame.

When Stranger Things first appeared on Netflix nearly ten years ago in 2016, the streaming service probably didn’t realize it would become such a huge hit. Now, the show is wrapping up with its final season, as the characters from Hawkins try to finally defeat Vecna and close the door on the dangerous world of the Upside Down.

The streaming service plans a big holiday push, releasing the final season of Stranger Things in three parts throughout November and December.

Okay, so releasing a huge show like this in a slightly different way felt weird at first, but when you think about how much Netflix invested in Season 5, it actually totally clicks. It makes complete sense why they did things this way!

Stranger Things Season 5 reportedly cost between $50 and $60 million per episode

From the very beginning, Stranger Things resonated with viewers by evoking the feel of classic horror films like IT, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Carrie. As the show grew in popularity, Netflix invested increasing amounts of money into each new season, with Season 4 reaching a staggering cost of $270 million.

According to Puck News, each episode of Stranger Things’ fifth season cost between $50 and $60 million to produce. This brings the total cost for the entire final season to around $480 million.

Yes, you read that right: $480 million.

The new project cost over $365 million – even more than Marvel’s *Avengers: Endgame*, which took more than ten years to build up to and earned nearly $2.8 billion worldwide. And that figure includes payments to huge stars like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Josh Brolin, along with many other leading actors.

The actors in Stranger Things are definitely well-known, but they haven’t quite reached the same superstar status as the Avengers. Though, it’s worth noting that David Harbour did recently play a role in a Marvel movie, *Thunderbolts*, making him part of that superhero team!

Whether the fight against Vecna will become as popular as the movie *Avengers: Endgame* is still unknown, but the show has definitely become a major part of pop culture recently.

It makes sense that Netflix is releasing Season 5 in parts throughout the year. Each of the eight episodes is quite long – between 90 minutes and two hours – so get ready! Here are the dates when the episodes will be available.

  • Volume 1 — 4 episodes releasing November 26
  • Volume 2 — 3 episodes releasing December 25
  • Volume 3 — Final episode releasing December 31
